Parking policy: Iike other superstore parking around Brighton I check to see if there is free parking. The signs in the car park CLEARLY say "2 hours". What they also say, only in small print underneath, is that you get *30 minutes*, otherwise you need to validate (spend £5 or more.) Unsurprisingly, in store they don't do anything convenient to avoid this problem, e.g. by placing an mandatory screen on the self checkout to automatically register your car. Oh no, that would be too easy. Ok, 30 minutes is enough to get in and out with a few items if you're fully aware, but if you're delayed with queues or some other distraction, or you want to nipp around the corner to another shop, suddenly it runs out quickly. Mostly I've found a flat 2 hours is standard for big superstores. Anyone unfamiliar with this place is likely to get caught out and it's disgusting that they get away with implementing these strange local rules with little explanation and inadequte notice. As you can see from the other reviews, people are getting caught out. Today I dropped in (first time ever) for a few items (more than £5), but I wasn't in a rush (not knowing about the limit). I may have spent slightly more than 30 minutes, I really don't know. I won't be back here on principle.

For a long time, the parking terminals at this store were not working. I continued to shop there regularly, assuming the situation was the same. However, during my visit, I received a parking fine because I was unaware that the terminals had been repaired and now required payment. There were no clear signs or reminders from store staff to inform customers of this change. I believe it would be helpful and fair for Tesco to ensure clear communication when such important changes occur, especially after a long period of system issues. I would also appreciate some assistance from Tesco in resolving parking fine I've received from Horizon parking, as I feel it was issued under unfair circumstances. UPDATE: After appeal with attached banking statement fine was canceled.

This is NOT review of the Hove Tesco store as somewhere to buy food, etc. That is entirely acceptable. This is aimed at their car park policy. We only use this Tesco rarely so were completely unaware of a new parking policy. The first we knew of it was a demand for £70 from Horizon Parking Ltd. When did the policy change? When and where was there any form of warning of the policy change? Where are the machines to register? Where are the signs, conspicuous or otherwise, to tell occasional shoppers that you have to register? We were timed to have stayed 1 hour 58 minutes and 35 seconds, that is just under the two hour limit that has applied for as long as we can remember, so thought we had abided by Tesco's requirements, but no. We know now that this car park is run by yet another dubious," just the right side of the law" car park supervising company and not technically Tesco PLC, but Tesco could have done / do more to warn occasional customers of the change. We will pay the "out of the kindness of our hearts" £40 offer but only because we cannot face the stress of appealing LATEST UPDATE. They have done us again!! Because the notification of the first infringement took several days to be sent from Horizon Parking Ltd we inadvertantly contravened their rules again, resulting in another demand for money..... If we ever need to visit that store again we will park elsewhere, find a Tesco store manager and get him, or her, to show us where the information signs are and where to register to use the car park. We can't afford to keep adding £40 to the bill each time we shop there.

I've been shopping here for 5 years, and the parking machines have always been out of use so have never been able to validate parking (I'd check the machines periodically). Then last week, suddenly hit with a £70 fine for not validating. Shocked & appalled. Update: sent the parking company bank statements proving purchase, and fines were waived. For anyone else in the same boat.

My local supermarket and always a lovely shop to be fair. Always pretty well stocked. Main downside is that the produce area always looks a little scrappy and I haven't seen any seedless lemons in ages. Meat usually pretty good and chilled area pretty good. Toilets always clean which is good. Not much else too it really.

Very good visit to this shop, We were looking for coal or logs for the open fire. But none was available. Only BBQ briquettes.

Great Tesco apart from no cold beers now. Handy as near my brothers house, watched Man City beat Arsenal last night. Had to cool the beers in his freezer. So no cold bottles of beer but have Arsenal bottled the league

Good prices, large parking lot, cafe inside, clean toilets. Never had to queue so long that I wanted to leave. I only wish the store would be open for longer on Sunday. During weekdays, at lunch time, is best to avoid it though as too many office workers come in and it's a bit too busy
