Lovely community shop, people are really helpful, kind and friendly. Stock is from middle East, vegetables are always fresh. They also do frozen food.
I used to go there because they have some Greek products produced in Greece - in fact in my friend's hometown. It was months ago that I went there and apart from the delicious Greek pastries, I got some chicken nuggets*. The lady who's polite in general told me "don't eat them all at once". I thought it was rude but didn't pay attention. It bothered me nonetheless. Another time I got something sweet, the small sweets they have near the till, and the lady said the same thing. So, I decided I won't go there again. Especially since there were other people before me and she didn't say the exact thing to them. As I was passing by today, I felt like having something Greek and decided to go. The lady was again very polite indeed and helpful. She started giving me cooking tips, which I found a bit patronising, but I could understand that she was trying to be helpful. And then she said it again: don't eat them all at once. It's nobody's business if I want to have all of them, share them, eat half of the bag and put the rest in the freezer. I'm someone who's overweight and I'm struggling with that. I don't need a stranger to make comments like that. I should have told her off immediately and I deeply regret that I didn't but I was shocked. I have to say, it ruined my day. I wasn't a regular but I won't go there again. Third time is a charm. Best of luck in your business. *The chicken nuggets were bad. I threw them away. It was like they had been defrosted and then put in the freezer again.
I am very satisfied with the services at St Michael where I can find all my fresh ingredients & other items, and I appreciate all the good customer service that they provide. They have a plethora of fresh Middle - Eastern fruits and vegetables and spices.
Shopped with friend and got excellent service and advice. Made the recommended recipe using ingredients suggested by the amazing assistant. Was all delicious. Will be back soon.
A wonderful treasure trove of a food shop with enthusiastic and friendly staff. So much packed inside - I'm always discovering new, delicious foods (mostly recommended by the super helpful daughter who will happily proffer advice, recipes and ideas). With a steady stream of custom you can tell this place is popular with both locals and people who actually know what what some of the more obscure (to me!) items are. The prices are reasonable and I'm enjoying trying many fantastic new flavours. I am so pleased that shops like this exist on our high street.

I love this family run, local shop. Economical spices and other delights. If you are lucky to be served by the daughter, not only you'll leave the shop with great quality products at inexpensive prices, but also with great recipes!
