So booked a double room. Ok so the hotel itself isn’t to bad yes it’s an old building and needs a little TLC to make it better. The room its self was nice. Nice bathroom with bath and shower. In room tea making facilities and extra drinks available at reception. I booked during the off season so room was cheap and worth the money.

My mother-in-law booked us a stay at The Old Ship for Christmas 2025. Prior to going I had read the reviews here on Google and I will admit that I was quite nervous at what we would be walking in to. However, I am really pleased to say that it was not even close to as bad as the reviews suggested! The Old Ship is indeed old - and you can see that age around the edges and in some of the non-public areas of the hotel. But it is also really apparent the the current management are investing time and money into maintenance and restoration. Our bedroom was clean, the bed was comfy and the decor was clearly recently redone. There were a few rough patches on the wall under the window and on the ceiling but overall it was nice. There is a gap at the bottom of the bathroom door but it didn't bother us. The shower was powerful and the water was hot. The dining room has also clearly been redecorated and refurbished recently and it was a nice place to eat. Our Christmas dinner was in the Paganini ballroom and this space is beautiful. Of course it as decorated for Christmas which added to the atmosphere. All the staff were lovely, helpful and kind.

We've just enjoyed a lovely stay in this old hotel. Yes, it needs quite a lot of TLC in places, but that added to its quirkiness. The bedroom was tired, but the bed was extremely comfy and most importantly, the room was exceptionally clean. We had the lovely surprise upgrade to a Seaview room which really added to the experience. The staff are brilliant, Louis on reception was very kind and helpful and obviously took pride in his job. The young girls on the bar were fun and lively, and the breakfast team were busy but helpful. Breakfast offered everything you needed to set you up for the day. The location is second to none, next door to The Lanes and perfect for walking the prom. I sincerely hope this hotel gets the planned investment as it's a lovely old building with plenty of charm and character. We will definitely return

Overpriced, poorly maintained and noisy! While I appreciate the age of the building the whole hotel was in a state of disrepair and not one element even got close to a 4 star facility. Chairs and decor in the bar area were dirty and torn The room had most of the lights not working, mould on the ceiling and very worn bed. Every single floor board in the hotel is loose so very noisy and means once one person is up and about then everyone is awake. Brighton is a lovely place to visit but just choose a different place to stay

To be honest, it's such a lovely hotel and very tired. Don't expect 4 star as you'll certainly see how tired this place is. They are trying in certain areas, but covering up others with things like covers under the window areas at breakfast, severe blowing of the plaster etc. I love this hotel for its character but price does not justify the issues wrong with it. The staff were so lovely and attentive and so helpful on every aspect. The food was ok and what was expected in a 3 star hotel. Very very limited dinner menu. For Brighton I expected a lot more. This hotel is in serious need of modernisation. Don't put a plaster on an injury that needs surgery. Very strong smell of damp on our floor and it was meant to be non smoking, our room smelt so bad of smoke. This place could be a front runner with The Grand to which I have stayed at but needs serious investment. Don't get me wrong, you'll receive a good night's sleep and ok food, but don't expect the Ritz. I would say you get what you pay for, but on this case, I was very disappointed.

We had a great stay, really nice hotel, great location on the beachfront. Close to the pier, The Lanes and all the entertainment Brighton has to offer. All that said the best thing about it was the brilliant staff, Connor, Les and the rest of the team were fantastic, the list of things they did is too long to mention but they went over and above what could be expected of them. They are the reason we will definitely be back again and I highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a good place to stay in Brighton you will not be disappointed. Great room, nice size, great view, and very clean.

Our first time staying at this old gem. It was arranged for a special birthday of mine, delayed by a year due to my partner having emergency surgery a year ago. It did not disappoint and we cannot thank the staff enough. We had the most amazing sea view room. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious. The friendliness and service from all staff was fantastic. Special thanks to Connor who has not been at the hotel long but whose customer care and service could not be bettered. He is a real asset to the hotel and nothing was too much trouble. He helped make our weekend go smoothly. We had my birthday meal in the hotel restaurant, The Wardroom, for 10 of us. The food was exceptional, as was the service. Thanks to Stan for that. All in all, a birthday to remember. I cannot recommend the hotel more highly.

The staff were so friendly and helpful and the food was terrific. A great Christmas weekend getaway. Superbly located on the seafront with easy walking of the beach and pier. Remembering that it is the oldest hotel in Brighton, the lift broke down while we were there and it was quite difficult to navigate access around the floors but again the staff were very helpful. Thank you for a great Christmas experience. We look forward to visiting again.

Booked by work. The pictures look great, and the reception and bar are. But the room and upper floors were dated and thread bare. That said they were clean. My room was musty when I went in and decor very dated. Bed was very comfortable and 8 would of slept well apart from the noisy bar followed by bin men next morning. I'm not sure how this hotel is 4 star as it needs a real makeover. The staff were great though.
