The Star offers such a range of experiences from the cosy fireside bar to the beautiful dining room, which is where I ate this time. The trout was a delicious light meal, and a welcome change to all the roasts offered this time of year, my friend had the hock terrine and found it incredibly tasty. Finished off with a light and very gingery sticky toffee pudding: and I nerd to mention the Uruguayan Albarino. Annoying that I was driving and could only have a small glass. Alfriston is a treat to visit, a time warp of a village, and perfect for a quiet stay. That's the next trip, the rooms look wonderful. Final word is the staff, really lovely mix of young and new, and maturer and experienced. Couldn't do enough for us.

Collection Polizzi is a beautifully-curated fashion retailer, next door to the hotel. Jill, the manager, couldn’t have been warmer or more attentive. She has that rare ability to make you feel welcome without hovering, and she really knows her stock — her advice was spot-on and never pushy. It’s the kind of place where you end up enjoying the experience as much as the purchase. Highly recommended.

The Star is simply superb. Excellent service, atmosphere, food and drinks. Our rooms were also very comfortable. The staff are clearly very well trained. Whilst it’s not the cheapest, the value for money is good. We will return, hopefully in the winter when we can fully enjoy the log fires. I don’t recognise the experience of some reviewers, if you expect pub prices, go to a pub not a luxury boutique hotel.

Thank you for a fantastic Sunday lunch this Bank Holiday weekend. I had no reservation you were fully booked but your staff looked after my 3 course meal in your beautiful bar. All the staff were very professional, observant and polite. The quality of the food was fantastic and it’s a must if you are in the area. I was unfortunate enough to stay at the Alfriston hotel which is far from luxury or good service, please teach them how it’s done.

We stopped off for drinks at The Star yesterday evening, on our way home to Eastbourne, after a lovely day out in our beautiful home county of Sussex. We were made to feel very welcome by the friendly, approachable staff and enjoyed our drinks whilst we sat in the beautiful courtyard. The additional snacks, provided free of charge with our drinks, were an unexpected and hospitable touch. We haven’t been to The Star since it has been under new management and we were very impressed. Wonderful attention to detail, gorgeous decor, and a relaxed atmosphere. We will definitely be returning!

True 5 star Hotel. Stayed for two nights. Beautiful rooms, peerless service, fantastic location within small village. Great walks from the doorstep. We stayed between Christmas and New Year, when it was fully booked, but have to say service was not affected one iota. Alfriston has several pubs and gift shops. Food at the hotel is top notch. Although it is not cheap, it is worth it for the quality of the food and ambience within the restaurant. If you fancy a treat, for yourself or someone else then you will not be disappointed.

We’ve just returned from a fabulous stay at the Star Inn. The rooms were lovely, really comfy beds and beautifully designed. The staff were so welcoming and helpful. We were there to celebrate my parents’ wedding anniversary and everyone went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Dinner in the restaurant was delicious, and breakfast was great. We will definitely return, highly recommended!

We have now been to the Star 3 times. Soon after it first opened, in which it was lovely if slightly frenetic, then again this July, and once more in September. It is a pleasure to visit a hotel that i run so professionally. Every member of the staff are friendly, happy and good at their job. The rooms are very well equipped, beautifully appointed, and very comfortable. The breakfasts are wonderful with an extensive quality buffet and a hot menu too. That's hot food, the actual menu is pretty cool! The dinners are superb. You could not want anything more from this lovely hotel. You even get the added bonus of Alex Polizzi herself being present on certain days of the week. "Oh darling!" If you have never been, treat yourselves, you will not be disappointed.

Lovely Sunday lunch with good friends. Not bowled over by any of the starters on offer but we all agreed the roast beef was amazing, as was the puddings. Lucky I saved myself! Staff were friendly and attentive. A beautiful place to visit for a special occasion. We will be back.

We went here as we had heard really nice things about it. We went for lunch in the courtyard. On first seeing the lunch menu, I was not initially that enthusiastic about it. However, on tasting to food, I was really impressed. Absolutely delicious. Fish was cooked beautifully, chips were also fantastic. The real star though were the slow cooked peas. Amazing! The best fish and chips ever? Quite possibly. The restaurant and hotel itself were immaculate and very tastefully decorated. The staff were very friendly and excellent.
