Busy, friendly pub with a really good Indian restaurant onsite. I tried two dishes I'd never heard of and they were delicious.

Excellent country pub, very popular and lively atmosphere. Good range of beers, CAMRA award winning pub. Indian restaurant food is very good and would recommend a visit.

Pub has a great atmosphere...the food is very good indeed. Second time we have eaten here in the past week. the food is excellent along with the service. Restaurant could do with a face-lift but if this place gets on the map it will be bookings only great night. Great food. thank you.

I went to the Red Lion at Checkley yesterday evening with my wife and another couple for the grill night. Before sitting at our table we had a drink at the bar which offers a great selection of beers from the hand pump. In the restaurant we ordered a mixed grill, two ribeye steaks and the gammon. Everything was cooked perfectly and when it arrived at the table it was all piping hot, as it should be. My mixed grill was definitely one of the best I'd ever had and everyone else was really happy with their food. The prices were very reasonable too. I can't believe the price some places charge for steak these days. The steaks we had here prove you can still have excellent quality at a reasonable price. The only disappointment was that we were the only ones in the restaurant. Why it wasn't full, especially on grill night, is beyond me. We will definitely be returning. Thank you.

Lovely old pub with good beer, good service. Open fire and log burner make it a lovely place for a brew.

Wonderful place! Restaurant not open when we went but we were welcomed by a log fire and really friendly patrons. Such a community, cosy feel. Also amazing local ale from Uttoxeter brewery. Exactly how a British pub should be!

Although originally a Checkley lad, returned to the Lion after being overseas for decades pleasantly surprised by the friendly service, great landlord and the amazing locals, always have a laugh. Beer from Uttoxeter brewery was awesome.
