Attended a private function. Welcoming Christmas decor. Bar staff attentive and efficient. Waiting staff friendly and accommodating. Food very good. My main course could have been hotter but do appreciate there were a large number of guests to get round. Overall a very enjoyable experience.
Just had a work related Xmas lunch at the Heron on the Ford. I'm happy to say that everyone seemed delighted with the food, service the general ambience. We had drinks for an hour and lunch was served very punctually at 1.00 p.m. I had a lovely thick cauliflower cheese soup with home made (pub made) bread. It wouldn't be Xmas lunch without traditional turkey, brussels sprouts, glazed carrots, pigs in blanket etc. etc. etc. It was perfectly cooked and the portions were just on the right side of generous. My wife had a salmon and she cleaned the plate. enough said. Apple crumble with cinnamon and a chocolate brownies rounded off our lunch very well. We were truly stuffed. At one time time I thought the waiter was telepathic because I needed a couple of thing s and he was already there on my shoulder holding what I wanted. All in all, we thoroughly had a lovely afternoon as we sat around for over an hour after lunch catching up. There was no rush from the staff as they brought out coffee and mince pies. We left well after 4.30 fully stuffed and satisfied. Will be going there again with friends very soon after the new year.
Another amazing visit to Heron on the Ford. The staff are all so friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and very festive. The food was delicious and always guaranteed to be tasty and of high quality. The efficiency of service was brilliant. This is why we come back time after time. Its always a special experience. Thank you for looking after our needs so well . We will be returning as soon as we can.
A beautiful, tucked away, family oriented, little pub and restaurant in Charvil that serves excellent food and even better Sunday roasts. A great lunch and diner venue which is the sort of place that is truely British. There is ample parking on site and it’s great for a weekend wind down but it can get a bit noisy with all the children tearing around in and outside in the woods.
You will find it hard to get a better place to eat or drink..The ambience is delightful along with the food and staff. Warm fires in the winter months or enjoy peaceful outdoor countryside seating in the summer, with a ford close by for the children to paddle in. Also very dog friendly. 10/10
We visited the pub with a number of old friends. Nine of us in total. Every person remarked on how good the food was. We were served by a young lady full of smiles and very attentive. Before we left we were arranging for a further visit in the new year. Thank you for a most enjoyable afternoon.
Decent pub, not too expensive for a pint. The interior is lovely and very reminiscent of an old fashioned good English pub. Could be 5 stars if only they served Stella (had to get a Fosters). Toilets were clean and even had a map of all the pubs in Reading inside. Overall it's a lovely pub in a great location. I would highly recommend this pub.
The lovely climbing frame at the back is a game changer. The kids are very happy there and their meals not too pricey at £6. Also, of course, you can paddle in the food. Food is superb. Check the opening times before you go on a weekday evening.
Very nice little pub with not your typical pub food. I went for dinner here on a nice quiet Tuesday evening and had a torched mackerel with celeriac remoulade, roasted bream with giant bulgur, a chocolate orange creme brulee and a good pint of cider. All dishes looked and tasted very good. I will definitely visit it again and try some of their other food.
