cannot overstate how disgusted, shocked, and absolutely enraged I am after visiting Lillies Boutique in West Quay today between 2:30 and 3:00 PM. What should have been a simple shopping trip to find an outfit for an engagement party turned into an experience so rude and humiliating, I’m still in disbelief that it actually happened. My friend and I entered the store with genuine interest in purchasing something. We carefully picked out a few items and went to the fitting room to try them on — a completely normal thing to do in a clothing store. But from the moment we stepped into the fitting area, a female staff member continuously hovered outside the curtain, interrupting us repeatedly, telling us we had “too many items,” then bizarrely backtracking and saying it was okay, only to return and say it again. Her behavior was invasive, confusing, and downright unprofessional. It felt like we were being monitored and judged rather than helped. Still, we tried to remain calm, even as we felt increasingly uncomfortable. After trying on the clothes and getting feedback from a friend, we decided not to purchase anything at that moment — something every customer has the right to do. But apparently, at Lily’s Boutique, the mere act of browsing and trying on clothes without making an immediate purchase is considered a crime. As we made our way to the exit, a male staff member behind the till suddenly started aggressively insisting we bring our items up to purchase. I politely responded and explained we weren’t going to buy anything today. What followed was unbelievable. He began shouting at us, calling us stupid, accusing us of wasting time, and even claimed we had been there for “20 whole minutes” — which was a complete and utter lie. He went as far as to say customers are only allowed to try things on if they are going to buy them. Excuse me? That is not only absurd — it is terrible business practice and borderline harassment. This wasn’t just poor customer service — it was hostile, demeaning, and completely unacceptable. I have never in my life been spoken to this way by anyone working in retail, let alone shouted at for simply choosing not to make a purchase. We were treated like an inconvenience, not paying customers. To the management of Lillies Boutique: if you care even the slightest bit about your reputation, I suggest you urgently retrain your staff — especially on how to speak to people like human beings. Today’s experience was enough to ensure that I, my friend, and everyone I speak to will never set foot in that store again. Truly awful customer service. Rude, aggressive, and completely out of line. A disgrace to retail. Avoid this place at all costs.

Absolutely disgraceful experience at Lillies in westquay . What was meant to be a fun shopping trip with friends for an engagement party turned into one of the most uncomfortable and humiliating retail experiences we’ve ever had. We arrived around 2:30–3:00 p.m., excited to browse and try on some outfits. Instead, we were met with blatant rudeness and aggressive behavior from the staff. One employee continuously berated us, claiming we were taking “too many clothes” into the fitting room and telling us to “hurry up” — all while insisting there was a queue, when in fact, there was absolutely no one else waiting. To make matters worse, a woman working there kept on speaking to us while we were trying on clothes, repeatedly speaking at us through the gap, dictating what we were and weren’t allowed to try on. She even told us we weren’t allowed to try anything unless we were definitely buying it. Since when did a clothing store demand commitment before trying something on? We were called “stupid” and told we were a waste of time. The level of disrespect and unprofessionalism was genuinely shocking. And for what? Overpriced jeans and average clothing? The audacity of the staff is laughable for a shop that’s not even offering premium service or products. We’ve visited Lillies before — it was never perfect, but this was a new low. After today, we will never step foot in there again. Avoid at all costs unless you enjoy being treated like a nuisance for simply trying on clothes in a store that, frankly, isn’t worth the money.

My friend bought a two piece white flares set for £34.99 on Friday. On the receipt it said it’s exchanges only which she was happy to do. When into the shop today in the Marlands at 12:30 and spoke to lady and she claimed it smelt like washing powder. My friend never washed the product. As both of us have recently worked in retail shops, we know that you shouldn’t wash a product and it wouldn’t cross our minds to do so. However under the Consumer Rights act we are eligible for an exchange as stated on the receipt. Have to admit by looking at the reviews this has happened plenty of times! I don’t understand when having the receipt and the item which hasn’t been washed at all we can’t even have an exchange for another product. It’s disgusting. I won’t be coming back to purchase anything again. If I could leave a 0/5 review I would!

I’ve come to this store as a black teenager and they’ve accused me of stealing when I was simply putting the dress back to look for another, as I go to ask for a new one to try the lady tells me no you wanted to steal get out of my store causing a massive scene and embarrassing me. Her co worker was very nice however and offered for me to try at this point I’m upset and want to leave. I want an apology in person from the racist woman.

Absolutely disgusting service from the male owner of this store. My 15 year old sister picked up a top to try on and he took it straight off of her and says to her “this will not fit you, it’s too small”. Implying that she was too large for this particular size 8 top. Making her cry and call me to come and help (baring in mind we were in a rush as the store closed in 20 minutes and she needed an outfit for her birthday dinner this evening) I asked him if she could just try it on as it was the only thing she liked and he continued to argue with me and not let her try it on! Never have I ever come across an employee/owner of a store tell me (being a size 8) that this will not fit me and judging my weight. It’s absolutely disgusting, this is the reason young children are insecure these days, because of rude people like him. Wish I couldn’t give this awful place a star at all!

This shop is the worst. Their clothing is very overpriced and tacky, cheap material! I went there a few days ago and the staff were staring through someones changing room. As I was in the changing room one of the staff came into the changing room and give me something, luckily I was still dressed. There’s mirrors above the changing rooms and the camera were reflecting on the mirrors so you could see into the changing rooms.
