Lovely staff, great vibe, and a decent selection of beers and drinks. And it's open on the weekend too!

We dropped in for a quick meal before a talk. The pub itself was so noisy we had to eat outside. The 'roasted vegetable soup' tasted like yesterdays left overs (mainly cauliflower) blitzed. We are it because we were in a hurry, if we'd had more time I would have sent it back. It was cheap though!
Great vibe in a beautiful building. Beers selection is always great with some local brews which is nice. Super great staff a nice young girl served us today at around 12:30. Food was good, i has expected more as previously i had visited and had a lovely burger but as it was Sunday the Sunday menu was only available. 4 of us dined two having the beef roast one having the half a chicken roast and the third having an assortment of sides as pictured below. The sides were very good and the beef for the roast was lovely with a bit of crispy fat that was delicious. However both roasts seemed to be served with a suspicious gravy gloop. It was very thick and not the nicest to have with the meal. Both the chicken and beef roasts were served with the same gloopy gravy. I wonder with such well seasoned and cooked meat how they could not use the juices to make a gravy which is realistically minimal effort. The swede purée wasn’t a personal favourite but others at the table did enjoy it. Overall a good experience.
Good beer selection at a decent price and beautiful surrounds. Only downside was that service was incredibly slow with a queue out the door on a Friday evening. Not sampled the food yet.
Great setting and spacious yet intimate surroundings of the university's old senior common room. Excellent ale but only 4 stars as the range was very limited ... like only one real ale ready on tap. It's almost certainly the time of year, as there's usually a great selection. Staff were great. Cards only - no cash.

A beautiful place in Reading Uni grounds with a lovely outdoor space with benches. BUT ruined by zero atmosphere, rude, weird and unfriendly PHD students, miserable people who turn up and miserable people serving. It is not a prison camp in Kabul so i have no idea why you'd not be happy and friendly. it really is not hard. Smile, laugh, create a buzz. I don't know why so many of these places are full of people with sour faces like they've sucked on a mouldy grape. Servers are no better and set the tone. Get some buzz going!! COME ON!!
