I booked a table for a surprise party for my Mumβs retirement recently and the team were all outstanding. Not only did they reserve my exact requested table, which I am aware is very popular - especially for a Friday night! They were happy to take some decorations I delivered a day prior and decorated the table beautifully and took the best care of my Mum and her friends. Rising Sun is always no1 choice given how much we love Sharon, Gary and the entire team. The food, atmosphere, decor and overall vibe of the pub at Christmas was also stunning. A pub where you feel like family rather than just another guest. Thank you so much for making my Mumβs retirement so special - I appreciate all of your hard work, love and care so much! Team Riser always!!

Thanks to Sharon and her amazing team for another great Sunday Roast. This is our go to place to eat out and never disappoints. The food is outstanding and the service is always top notch. Strongly recommend booking as it is always busy, which is a true reflection on it's popularity.

A great experience. Really great food, and outstanding service from the lady that looked after us. Beautiful views across the Hamble, and reasonable prices. Highly recommended, will be visiting again soon!

Great atmosphere and welcome when we arrived after a walk. What a great idea to offer a smaller menu in the day. We opted for fish and chips and dessert for 9.99. Will defo be back, as this was perfect! Loads of staff to look after you. I was driving, so pleased with the zero alcohol dark and stormy mocktail. A great find!

I attended a St Patrickβs Day quiz event at this lovely river fronted pub. Leah and Charlie were fantastic and the pub was all decked out in green St Patrickβs Day bunting with a pile of fancy dress accessories for punters to wear. It was fantastic they were all in Irish gear as I was. The cider was lovely and refreshing as was the food. Well done guys ! I cycled to 3 other pubs on this Monday night having a half of Guinness in each and The Rising Sun shone out as the best ! One pub I visited in Sarisbury Green had not made any effort whatsoever! Such a shame. I will certainly come back to the Rising Sun again! Iβm told their Sunday roasts are mouth watering.

First time visiting with my fiancΓ©e. The atmosphere was great, staff helpful and attentive. Try to get an upstairs table if you can, fantastic views over the harbour.

I had lunch here and the team are so welcoming! I have some weird food allergies and they were so accommodating without me having to explain why i needed some things left off the dish I ordered. The best gluten free menu in the area for sure! The view is great and such a relaxed atmosphere. Thank you for making our visit great!

Really impressed with the staff - who were helpful and attentive. Lovely setting over looking the sea. With the roast dinner - the carrots lacked flavour - pepper, salt and butter please! The mash was... Set? Like it wasn't fresh and had dried out? - roasties needed slightly longer to develop golden brown colour although tasted good. Beef was meant to be served pink, but was not - however was very pleasant with horseradish. It was nice to have a children's menu with more than just pizza on it - and the children's roast was incredible value. My wife's peas were so hard they were inedible. We enjoyed the experience (view and walk) and it was good value so may come back for another try.

Really cool pub. Vibrant downstairs, tranquil upstairs. Great views across Hamble Marina out to Southampton Water. Three Greene King cask ales, and the typical Greene King menu which is rather heavy on meat and stodge, but amongst the small print a reasonably healthy and environmentally friendly plant based meal can be extracted. I like Greene King beers, but I do tend to despair of their menus. From Hungry Horse up to Chef & Brewer, the focus on chips, cheese, and meat is not encouraging or exciting in this day and age. However, the menus are popular and bring in a profit, so why should Greene King care? That said, the food is generally as you'd expect from that sort of menu - comforting rather than connoisseur. Food that people are not going to complain about, as it is often what we get at home, but presented more attractively. Our food was presented attractively, tasted nice, and was satisfying. Our waitress, Sarah, was attentive, pleasant, and did everything required, even though the upstairs room was almost full. We didn't wait long for anything - drinks, food, confirmation that everything was OK, and the bill, arrived promptly and with the ghost of a smile. Decent lunch time meal for two with drinks came to less than Β£30 in well run, comfortable surroundings in a room with possibly the best views in the area. Anyone coming here, provided they accept the limitations of the menu (and I totally do - The Greene King name is clearly displayed outside, so you know what you're getting), are not going to be disappointed. Quibbles? Yes. Two. On arriving at the pub we had to pass two smokers by the porch. We were forced to breathe in the toxins from their cigarette smoke, and endure the smell on our clothes. Smokers should be encouraged to stand well away from entrances when smoking. We, along with another party who had booked, were directed upstairs where someone would show us to our tables. Sadly there was nobody upstairs, and we all had to stand aimlessly waiting for someone to turn up and tell us where our tables were. Do these quibbles really matter? Yes and no. Smokers seem to stand at the entrance to most pubs, and few pubs seem to have the will to insist that smokers stand away from the entrance. It matters, but the problem, to be fair, is not unique to the Rising Sun. And that the upstairs waitress was not available at that particular moment is not something the pub should be damned for. It happens. But perhaps a little thought, like having clearer table numbers so people can find their tables themselves at busy times, would be useful. OK. Quibbles aside, this is one of the best pubs in the Southampton area, and if you've not been is well worth seeking out. There is a public car park right in front of the pub.
