Great pub serving good quality food and welcoming to walkers and dogs. They happily adapted their menu to find gluten-free options at very short notice. Thank you.

So reasonable priced for an excellent inn! Will definitely come back. Breakfast included and lovely staff. Really beautiful interior, fantastic pub and meals, and located perfectly next to Hartington, Buxton, and Bakewell, 10 minute drive to Thor's cave.

We ate here on Thursday lunchtime, well following the excellent food and beer it was a no brainer to book Sunday lunch. We arrived 15 minutes early for our table and had a beer in the bar while we waited. We were finally show to our table at 2.30pm having booked at 2.15pm no big problem. We had seen the food coming out of the kitchen, and had become concerned, about the quality of the food we were seeing come out of the Kitchen. Having been shown to our table, we rechecked the menu and all decided to have the full Sunday roast dinner. 2 of us went for the roast Pork, 1 Roast Beef and 1 veggie wellington. Well what arrived was Luke warm desperately over cooked tasteless food that should not of been served. The vegetables were very al dente which suited me, but no one else. On being served we all asked for the roast potatoes to be replaced, which they did, with lovely very hot roast potatoes. The stuffing balls where so hard and dry that Freddie Flintoff would of been better using them than us eating them. The staff were less than interested in hearing our issues with the food, or why we had left so much, when the table was cleared. Again while we paid for our meal the staff just had no intertrest. We had continued to look at the food being served, and to be honest it was not great for the price, but that is for other to talk about. The atmosphere was lively and busy for a Sunday. Overall with the food was poor and very lack lustre, however the beer was well kept and very good. The Pinot blush was very poor and we just did not think that desert was worth the risk of disappointment. 16/11/2025

Lovely pub, dog friendly. Very welcoming and accommodated our request for a quiet spot to help the dog settle. We ate dinner and breakfast. Breakfast was good, well priced and lots of choice. Dinner was average pub food but the chips were the best chips that I have ever tasted!

We stopped here for lunch on a whim - really glad we did so as it is a gem. Good service and atmosphere, clean and just a really nice place to stop at. The icing on the cake for me was the fact the menu had many gluten free choices, one of which was a pie. Such a rare treat to find gf pie on a menu anywhere. It was delicious. My husband had the ordinary pie and was likewise impressed. Unfortunately for us we found this Inn on our last day in the area, so we weren't able to return, but I'd willingly recommend it to others.

Get country pub with rooms. Great pub with a friendly welcome, good, well kept ,real ales and tasty food menu. Rooms were a decent size and beds super comfortable. Food was tasty with a good choice sufficient to tempt everyone in our large partying. Will definitely be back.

I didn't stay over at this pub, I only went with my partner to check out their breakfast menu as they state they have a deal for campers staying at the campsite opposite. Which is were we stayed. First I most mention that this Inn/Pub is in a beautiful building in a very picturesque setting with some nice outdoor seating in the summer. However, when we first entered the pub there was no staff to be seen anywhere. Eventually someone came around and asked if they could help us, but wasn't too polite. Due to being vegan we asked if they had any options for us, which they answered no because their sausage wasn't vegan. We thought maybe we could leave the sausage out but the person wasn't clearly not interested in serving us so we left and made our own breakfast. This was the summer of 2021 but we did go back this summer and thought maybe things had changed and we went in the evening. We only ordered a drink because the vegan options didn't appeal to us and the staff were a little more polite. I don't think I'll go back again, it's a shame as it's in such a nice place. Maybe its better for non-vegans.

Had a great overnight stay, the pub was good with nice food and a good selection of beers. Nice location and good atmosphere, we had dinner and ended up drinking all evening because it was just a nice place to be. The room was fantastic, far exceeded expectations. Even the breakfast was good except for the one thing that drops this from a 5 star review - the lack of coffee machine! Not sure how a hotel/restaurant/pub can't offer a choice of coffee, was really disappointed to miss out on something so simple but important. Everything else was so good and I do highly rate every aspect.. but I'll personally wait until I can get a proper coffee in the morning before staying there again.

Staying at the camp site opposite, we tried the local pub for dinner. And we could not have been more impressed. It is a traditional pub with lovely warm atmosphere inside. Our server, Sophie, was extremely friendly and helpful, making our evening very enjoyable. Lovely main meals, well cooked, reasonably priced and good portions. Sorry no photos! And very tasty desserts. See the cheesecake & brownie! All in all, a 5* experience. Very well recommended.
