I cannot recommend this place highly enough. We were let down by a different hotel on the day of our booking and were forced to find another hotel at very short notice. Thankfully, Middlethorpe Hall were more than accommodating and turned a very stressful start to my birthday weekend into an unforgettable trip. Even though they had nothing to do with the errors of the previous hotel, they took every step to make sure the remainder of our trip was memorable and stress free. From the personable and friendly service, to the beautiful grounds and scenic gardens, the stay was faultless. Upon arrival, we were greeted with kindness and hospitality. Their level of service is one which I consider to be a rarity. The room was breathtaking, something straight out of a story book. If youβre into English Countryside and History, you will adore the decor and historic architecture of the house. We stayed in the courtyard which was a beautifully presented and well kept building to the left of the hall. Youβre encouraged to explore the gardens (which made for a lovely morning walk) and I really enjoyed having a look into the different rooms of the hall and appreciating the architecture. Room service was easy and flexible, and equally the restaurant was fantastic. Albeit, we did only have breakfast but if the standard of service is the same at lunch and tea time, Iβm sure it is fantastic. Food was delicious with a great range of selection, and it was very quick to arrive. Breakfast was included in our Superior room booking which was a pleasant surprise. Access to the city centre was fantastic, we travelled via taxi and were surprised that it was only a 7 minute taxi ride! Finally, the spa! After hearing how weβd be let down by last minute cancellations with no offer of compensation from our original hotel, the porter at Middlethorpe Hall called ahead to their spa and arranged for the same treatments to take place that same day. An amazing treatment, fantastic and friendly staff, and a quiet lovely spa. If you value a good relaxing experience, I donβt think youβll be disappointed. Long story short, they truly make you feel valued. I had an extremely stressful start to my birthday trip and with the help of the Middlethorpe Hall staff, I was able to enjoy and relax. My only disappointment was that the trip was over so quickly. I would go back again in a heartbeat, and the next time Iβm in York, I know exactly where Iβll be staying. Fantastic.

Whats not to like , great value for money, considering its the same price as the Premier inn, yet we got loverly views, car parking, a spa and 10 min bus ride into york. Bus stop right by the hotel. Staff were all great, room was fantastic, grounds were loverly. We onlt had the breakfast but everything fresh and tasty.

A lovely hotel, really nice room with comfy bed. Very welcoming staff who could not be more helpful, along with the chef with regard to bespoking our choice to non gluten/dairy. All very clean and tidy, lovely gardens to walk around with a Listed building to admire in the process and very fairly priced. This was the second time we have stayed and look forward to future visits.

Review for hotel: absolutely beautiful. The staff were excellent. Appreciated Mark helping us with our luggage and showing us around. The buildings are gorgeous inside and out, as is the garden. Room was perfect and spotlessly clean. Breakfast was a little disappointing, slow to refill the fruit salad, croissants and juice. Portions slightly on the smaller side. Review for the spa: as an additional (free) extra as part of the hotel it was good; nice jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. But as a day spa, it is very small. The pool is slightly chilly. The information said children were only permitted during set times but this wasn't followed. The seating/lounging area was cramped and it lacked ambience. However the treatment (aromatherapy massage) given by Abby was absolutely brilliant, 5*

Beautiful historic hotel. Not cheap but you get charm and quality. They upgraded us from a junior suite to a full one which made our York stay very comfortable. Hospitality tray, fruit, robes, safe in the room but no fridge. Milk replenished and reception gave us mugs on request. Front of house staff very welcoming and efficient. The pool is very nice, just across from the courtyard, though used quite a lot by non hotel guest club members so never quiet. Let down a bit by rather poky changing rooms and tiny showers. My husband said the men's ones didn't work properly. The gardens are beautiful but rather near the A64. Breakfast is cooked to order in the dining room overlooking the gardens. Lovely food but slightly surly staff; we noticed some people not getting what they ordered. Easy parking, on a bus route into York, in fact we walked back along the river.

Came for the spa as a treat for my mum. Absolutely incredible experience. The staff were so welcoming and attentive. The food was exceptional, and the facilities were great. Laura was so professional and was very thorough with our treatments. Would highly recommend.

A thoroughly enjoyable weekend break at a hotel that provided excellent service from all the staff we met from our warm welcome on arrival and throughout our stay. The period charm of the property and the delightful gardens just added to the overall ambience. The charms of the property extend to the bedrooms. Had dinner, breakfast and afternoon tea during our stay and all of the meals were delightful but dinner was simply devine. All of this yet only 2 miles from York we couldn't ask for any more

Went for a Sunday lunch here and enjoyed it thoroughly. On arrival you are ushered into a grand waiting room for pre dinner drinks. This is the time to order drinks and food. Waiters are friendly without being overly so. Our waiter had been there 15 years. Loved the roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. Slightly deconstructed so the sides came in little containers and not on the plate.

Booked myself in to the spa for my birthday and can not recommend this spa highly enough. All the girls were so friendly and my therapist Helen was excellent. I would say the best massage I have ever had. Loved the manicure & pedicure and my polish has lasted all week despite doing housework. Enjoyed a light lunch which was delicious. Will definately be booking more treatments. Feel lucky to have such a fabulous place on my doorstep!!

The hotel staff were so welcoming and attentive, on arrival and throughout our 1 night stay. Everyone from the reception made our visit so enjoyable. From the brief but interesting tour of the hall at the start to the dining staff at breakfast, not forgetting the gardening team who were enthusiastic and helpful. We didn't see the housekeepers but the room was immaculate, it was fresh and had a comfortable temperature. This hotel is very special, when you have to leave it is with a tinge of sadness but a huge amount of good memory banked. The spa was so relaxing , very quiet and highly recommend. So peaceful , absolute bliss. Cannot fault anything
