Cons: The heater doesn’t work and the room is very cold and draughty in winter. The sink only has 2 taps, 1 hot and 1 cold, and no mixer. The hot tap is scalding hot and cold is ice cold. Hence, both are not usable especially in winter. While it seems to be a short bus ride to the city center, this depends if your bus even actually turns up. The bus never showed up on day 1, and a bus driver on number 30 gave me the wrong directions saying he doesn’t go to Fairfield manor, when in fact it does?!?!?!?! I don’t know why he doesn’t even know his own route???? While this is of no fault of the hotel, it made the transport extremely frustrating and nerve wrecking wondering everyday if the same thing would happen. It is also 20 min walk away from the Park and Ride bus stop, which according to the hotel staff are the more reliable bus service - but bus stop is way too far. There is no hotel shuttle service. There was a hotel staff, a girl, who kept coughing and didn’t wear a mask, which I found extremely unsanitary. Pros: The hotel is dated, but has its own charm to it. Very nice festive decorations in the lounge area and there is a restaurant and bar on site with hot food, though I didn’t try. Spacious room with plenty of space. I must also give a special shoutout to housekeeping because the rooms are spotless!!! I really appreciated that. The hotel staff are also nice and tried their best to help me out, eg. The giving a portable heater even though it didn’t actually had much effect.

We had a lovely stay. Room was nice and very big plus very warm. We did a lot of sightseeing plus Christmas shopping. The staff were excellent, warm and friendly. Laura was great we chatted with her every morning and she gave us the benefit of her local knowledge which made our trip, because we wouldn't have seen half the things we see without her help,so thank you. Breakfast was very nice and well worth the money.

We had a wonderful experience at Mercure York. From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional. A special mention goes to Deshpal Singh, who went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. He kindly offered us a complimentary room upgrade and was extremely attentive, polite, and professional throughout. His warm hospitality truly made us feel welcome and valued. Overall, an excellent stay made even better thanks to Deshpal’s outstanding customer service. Highly recommended

Had a fantastic weekend here, everything is spotless and the rooms are high quality. The staff can't do enough to help you, especially Jeff who checked us in early, gave us a complementary welcome drink, and was so friendly! Breakfast had so much choice and was delicious! We will definitely be back soon! Thank you!!

Rooms are old, need to be refurbished. Emailed regarding putting balloons in our room for my partners birthday, no reply and nothing came of it. Stayed there 2 nights had to keep on asking for towel changes. Staying 2 nights but only one tea bag each given in our room. Lobby and bar area fantastic. We booked this for luxury and comfort but luxury was far from it for my pregnant wife. We've stayed in a few mecures but this was the only one below average compared to the price we paid for it. Highly recommend staying away from here, better options would be guest houses better value for money and been given TLC.

The BEST place to stay if you have a dog. I have stayed at countless different places with a dog over the years and this hotel was hands down the best. We were there for three nights and this hotel made our holiday. The customer service from all the staff were second to none. They waited on us hand and paw! We felt so welcome and at home. Sometimes traveling/holidaying with a dog can be stressful but this hotel and York in general couldn't be more dog friendly. There are some beautiful grounds and walks in the immediate surroundings of the hotel that were perfect for dogs. The room decor was a bit dated, but charming, clean and peaceful. Food was really yummy and had good variety. Thank you to all the staff that truly made our stay perfect, we will definitely be back soon!

Lovely old hotel just outside York. Our room 414 was very big and quite gorgeous, quite dated, but immaculate, furniture matched curtains matched, bathroom outstanding. Toiletries were quality. Separate sitting room was a bonus, Staff on arrival really informative and very friendly, bar staff very friendly. Breakfast wasn't so good. Would stay here again as very good value for money.

Pleasant hotel a few miles from York City Centre. Receptionist (Lisa) very welcoming and helpful with a few ideas to visit during our stay. A hearty breakfast was available. A particular member of staff was very keen to remove any finished plates, bowls etc which was great but unfortunately the interpersonal skills were not the best. Room was clean and comfortable but some of the furniture needs an update. Bar and Restaurant available. Hotel surroundings very pleasant.
