The staff were friendly and helpful and the spa was brilliant. However... they are in the middle of refurbishing some of the rooms, so we may have been unlucky and gotten one that they hadn't done yet, but I can say for certain that it was the single most uncomfortable bed we have ever tried to sleep on... at one point in the night my husband got some cushions and tried to make a bed on the floor because he just could not cope with how solid the bed was, not firm, not hard, but solid... it literally felt like sleeping on a piece of wood. That being said, the bathroom was good, the shower had decent pressure behind it and the WiFi was fast.

Having stayed at Shaw Hill Hotel last weekend and having read some of the previous reviews I feel I have to comment. Yes the hotel is an older building - it gives it character. We stayed in room 19 and didn't have any issues. The room was very clean, the shower worked perfectly and the water pressure was fine. The staff were fantastic and breakfast was great. None of your buffet breakfast here - freshly cooked food to order. Maybe you just can't please all of the people all of the time and some people are very hard to please these days! We had a great stay and were glad we chose to ignore the negativity.

Shaw Hill is in a great location. The golf course looked lovely, although didn't get out. The staff are fabulous and the food was excellent. The restaurant and down stairs is pretty nice and in a good condition. That's the good part. Our room, room 1, although being a great size with fabulous views over the course and further afield, was really dated. The suspended ceiling looked like the polystyrene tiles your nan had 40 years ago. The windows (original) didn't fully close and let in a fair amount of breeze, the curtains didn't close with the closing pulley system. The bathroom, again a great size 4 piece suit, was better decoration wise, but we had no hot water and next to no water pressure. They did reboot the system whilst we had 'free cocktails' and it did work again. Although filling the corner bath took a while due to lack of pressure. Just to cap the whole visit off there was a big thunder storm and the ceiling leaked and collapsed into the room. Within a few minuets the carpet was totally flooded. Along with the room below, that had a bride & groom staying in!! They did find us another bedroom but that must have been an emergency room. Small room, small bed but hot water at a great pressure!!! It is a shame as the staff are great. The location is brilliant. It just needs a lot of investment put into the building and bedrooms. If they did that it would be brilliant. A visit we wont forget. Great food with a flooded room.

I came to the hotel today, for several hours, as a wellbeing event was being held there. We had one cup of tea and a small bottle of sparkling water, which they charged £7.45 for. The table hadn't been cleaned, despite it sitting empty for some time, and the dirty crockery was even left after our drinks were brought to the table. The toilets were out of order too. Sadly, poor impressions left after a first visit.

Had a spa indulgence day today which included use of the leisure facilities, a treatment and afternoon tea. My friend and I chose the facial which was amazing and the afternoon tea was delicious and the staff very attentive. The only negatives to the day were that we arrived just after 9am and fancied a hot drink first and was told to make our way to bar for this. We got over to the bar to be told it was closed. Ok, no bother, we decided to go to the pool where there were kids swimming lessons going on till ten with parents using all the seating. When the loungers came available after they had all left there were only 3 and there was myself and my friend and another two ladies already using two. I asked at reception to see if there were anymore which there wasn’t. Unfortunately that mean we were trying to relax on furniture that was very upright with no cushions-uncomfortable. Overall it was lovely but would have been better if we had been told at booking that there were kids swimming lessons going on and maybe a few more loungers poolside.

We did not stay over and went for dinner on Christmas Eve , very disappointed, the restaurant was cold, no atmosphere either, the service lacked the finesse that you would expect from a venue of this calibre. Our waiter led us to our table without offering to carry our drinks to the dinner table. The wine was left on our table opened and no one came to offer to pour or check it was to our liking. No one came to check if we were enjoying the meal. Little points, the food was a little disappointing and we are left wondering if we did the right thing by booking the New Year's ball.

I think this hotel is excellent in Room Quality, Service and Location, the breakfast diner overlooking the wonderfull Golf field. The room was very big and had very comfortable beds. The bathroom was spotless as well as the party venue. The food was unbelievable and I think the chefs should compete against Gordon Ramsay. Eloquent cuisine. The excellence of this place never ceases to amaze me for a party venue and great accommodation. Book tickets now for this wonderfull place. This place has no reason to have an average review of 5 stars. I would rate it more than 5 stars if I could.
