Did not stay so cannot comment on the rooms. We had a very pleasant lunch in a private room for around 40 of us. Food and service was excellent. A pleasant location, most enjoyable.

Stayed for 3 nights in room 608 on the top floor. The room was nice, but was let down by low hot water pressure. This resulted in cold or barely warm showers. I told the hotel every morning but they just said thanks and didn't do anything about it. When I asked to move rooms, was told the hotel was fully booked. WiFi also didn't work in my room. Service was variable, some staff amazing, others appalling. Overall a 'meh' experience!

Booked two nights stay with my daughter who was competing in a competition nearby. I needed somewhere to bed down for a couple of nights and found the pricing on this hotel excellent. I was a little wary initially as the price seemed too good and wasn't expecting much, however, I was pleasantly surprised! We were in an upgraded room, and found it to be very clean and comfortable. The room was spacious, plenty big enough for me, my teenage daughter and all her Fencing equipment - its a lot! The only down side was lack of a mini fridge as would have liked to have stored some drinks and snacks. There is still building work going on to some of the rooms but the builders are polite and considerate. We dined in the restaurant the first night and found a great selection on offer. The food was lovely and staff attentive. Overall, pleasant stay, friendly staff, close enough to some local restaurants if you wanted to venture out. Would definitely stay again.

Stayed in room 101, a newly refurbished comfy double. The room was smallish but beautifully decorated. Could really have benefitted from a light in the wardrobe or at least in the corner of the room as it was very dark when trying to choose clothes. It was also very warm overnight even with the window open. 9th/10th October not the height of summer. Bathroom was at first glance beautiful. On closer inspection there was a very dusty extraction fan and more dust on the floor behind the door. There was also a complete lack of WiFi in that part of the hotel. Quite annoying. The reception area along with the bar and restaurant were beautiful. The staff very professional and helpful. We had breakfast included and couldn't really fault it (except for the kitchen running out of brown bread. Although there was plenty available on the buffet. Why not just take some through to the kitchen??) We also had an evening meal there and my request for different fries was messed up and not put right until I had almost finished my meal. Overall worth every penny of the price paid. £139 for 2 nights B+B for 2 people via Travelzoo.

Exceptional Hospitality and a Truly Comfortable Stay We visited the hotel for 3 nights for a company conference which was being held there. It was just over an hour from London centre on the train, or uber so we took the advantage of going into London centre while we were over there. All of the staff at the hotel went above and beyond to make our stay as comfortable as possible. From the warm welcome we received at reception very late on, after a long and difficult journey, to the attentive and efficient food and beverage team, every interaction was a pleasure. We were honestly pleasantly surprised, this was one of the nicest experiences we’ve had at a in this country, and we’ve stayed in many hotels here. The level of service and genuine hospitality really stood out. The hotel has been recently been refurbished and although it hasn’t lost its traditional feel, it feels lovely, clean and modern. Our family room was very spacious! It was probably one of the hottest weekends of the year, so we were relieved to find a decent fan in the wardrobe which kept the room cool. The beds were really comfy and it was nice that the extra bed wasn’t a sofa bed, as our daughter is nearly 18. The room for our conference was lovely with a stunning balcony which elevated the room and the food was excellent! Highly recommended!

This hotel has facilitated housing for unknown, illegal economic migrants, in the area. They have chosen profit over community and country. As the government needs to be held responsible for the appalling mishandling of the situation, these hotels should be, for facilitating it. Remember each and every one of the hotels that brought potential danger and harm into our communities for profit and chose to line their pockets, instead of doing what's right.

Booked in may 2022 for a birthday present with tickets to an event nearby for november 2022. The hotel sent me a cancellation a few weeks before the date I was due to go, letting me know they have cancelled it. When I enquired as to why, they told me they cancelled all upcoming bookings to lease to a private client until October 2023. Not really a great way to treat your customers

I returned to Thatchers for a spot of lunch, with a long standing business associate, having recommended the venue to him, for which my colleague was delighted to go on my recommendation. It having been a little while since I was last there, but the experience previously always excellent, and having been a regular at this venue for many years, and still using regularly other hotels in the Surya chain, I was confident it would be a great experience. How wrong was I! Instead I had to explain to my lunch companion that we were not welcome and had to leave! Upon arrival, we sat in the garden area, getting strange looks from people, no one however saying anything, and no one came to attend to us. So I go to reception to ask for service, to be greeted by an unfriendly, rude, arrogant person, who informs me the hotel is not open to the public and we have to leave. I was not allowed to return to the garden through the usual garden entrance that I just came through, and was made to leave through the main entrance and walk around. If the hotel is now closed then firstly, there were a lot of people there considering it is closed, the hotel sign is still up, and the car park is open and it is still listed on booking sites. I suggest Surya act professionally when they close a hotel to ensure it is not misleading and inviting people in! Take down the hotel sign or cover it up, and put a sign at the very entrance or a barrier to inform people without telepathic abilities that the hotel is now closed. When people do come in not realising this, you should also ensure the people managing the site are helpful, apologetic for the misunderstanding and look after your customers! This experience has certainly tainted my long-standing relationship with Surya and having had this experience whilst with a business colleague, I sadly find myself unable to do so in the future. Appalling management failure.

Stayed for 2 nights in January, room wasn't serviced and nothing to say it wouldn't be. On arrival, heating wasn't turned on, very noisy radiator when on. Couldn't sleep with it on. Towel rail in bathroom not working. Bar area toilets not the cleanest either. Food OK but not 5 star! However we enjoyed our stay and staff were pleasant
