Visited tonight for some post xmas cocktails....first round ok no problems but paid then was asked to pay again with being told sorry "thats my f'ing brain". The second round I felt awful for the person serving me trying her best to make them whilst looking in a paper note book for ingredients (no way her fault and I understand a lot to remember/do/mix) but maybe a busy night with not much support on the bar is not fair to someone so new. No crushed ice for a motito or sugar to glass.... and just tasted like vodka ice and soda with some mint and charged £10. When asked to remake as didnt taste nice the same person who made my first drink asked who made it (not you loce so guess would be new person trying her best to keep up with her book) then seemed to chat away at her team memeber gesturing towards me like I was a problem customer..£40 spent on 4 drinks is a treat....and it didn't feel the service or drink was worth it. Pretty bar with pretty lights to lure you in....support for new staff and a more mature team lead inside the bar would be a start to live up to the outside.

Went in with some friends for a drink and honestly, the experience was ruined by what I’m pretty sure was the bar manager. Instead of doing his job, he was loudly bad-mouthing the bar across the road. He even said, “Don’t make their cocktails posh, they go to places like over the road.” It was unbelievably rude, disrespectful, and completely unprofessional. Staff talking down about customers and other businesses right in front of people is not a great look. It’s a shame, because the place itself is actually very nice — but the attitude from management was enough to put us off coming back.

Looked great from the outside, but that’s about where the positives end. When we went in, we were greeted by a miserable girl who clearly didn’t want to be there — not exactly a welcoming start. The drinks were ridiculously overpriced for what they were, and the quality was poor. After a couple of sips, we decided to leave and went to Rabona just down the street, which was miles better in every way. Wouldn’t recommend Monk Bar at all.

Visited today, nice cocktails would recommend the tropic like it's hot and the pear drop. The only issue we had was the service itself. I ordered at the bar and went back to my seat thinking they would have brought it to the table as the bar was quiet and no where on the menu did it advise it was only bar service. They placed our drinks on the bar and did not shout over saying your drinks are ready until 10 minutes and we wondered where the drinks were until we saw them and asked if the drinks were ours. Would not recommend the service.

First time here, very nice bar indeed, Matlock is great at the moment for a night out, better than Chesterfield

Excellent service. First bar I've been in where they chill your wine glass with ice before pouring. Good 'beer' garden which has music. Best accessed via public footpath rather than negotiating the stairs at the back.
