Satoru was a yummy dinner out, we had edamame beans which were delicious, one rice and one udon. The egg was ever so slightly over cooked but it was still delicious. The food got so so cold so quickly because we were by the door but they were so kind and happy to warm it up again. I would definitely request to be seated further in tho!

Fancy but cosy restaurant with various Japanese cuisine options. We got the chicken katsudon and the katsudon, both of which were quite good. The eggs were flavourful and the katsu served with a nice crispy finish. Portion size is average for the price you pay. The staff are very friendly and overall was a nice dining experience.

I was planning to visit this place for a while now. Checked their Instagram for information which days they serve tempura and booked the table for today. The staff was very friendly and made us feel welcomed and thought the whole visit they were attentive and pampered all customers well. We ordered plenty food as we went on empty stomachs, in short: all was very delicious and satisfying. BUT to give details: Their miso soup doesn't have this overwhelming taste, wakame salad was seasoned just on spot. Karaage was juicy and piping hot and the pumpkin croquettes were just as good. The katsudon bowl was heartwarming and their tempura... Gosh! Yes, they have best tempura in Edinburgh. They beat few places I had pleasure to taste tempura at. We also had some sake, yuzu liquor and peach/umeshu wine which made us a bit mallow alongside with all this food. Dear Satoru, you were like a warm hug I needed for a long time! Next time we will order only 1 main and share as we had way too much food but everything was delicious and no fault was found! Please stay like that forever! ❤️

Their tempura bowls are top-notch, and really stand out from their regular menu items. They provide free-flow miso soup which is delicious. Make sure to check on their Instagram for which days the tempura is available, because it changes from week to week. The prices are quite reasonable for a sit-down restaurant in Edinburgh.

On 18th July 2025, my wife and visited this Satoru restaurant for our dinner. We wanted to eat Japanese cuisines. All staff were good. Our ordered cuisines were very good. My wife had Sukiyaki and I had Tonkatsu Don. Both were very good. We are very much looking forward to visiting again soon. Thank you!

What I like most about these kinds of places is a simple menu. The food was quite honestly the best experience of Japanese food I’ve had in Edinburgh out of around 5. The flavours of the kupi mayo and sweet potato were stunning. The texture was the most perfect crispy on the outside and uniformly soft throughout the croquette inside. Hands down the best fried / cooked vegetable I’ve ever tasted. The udon chewy texture was phenomenal. Tasted super fresh I’m not sure if it was handmade but I was very pleased with it. The broth was fantastic and balanced. The tempura was nicely cooked but sadly had gotten a little soggy. I would have deducted a star for that but the flavour of the food is still in my mouth after 15 mins of the best broth I’ve ever tasted. I definitely will be back to try some of the rice bowls but please sort out your service. Someone who came in after me had and finished their food before I even got mine. I’m not inclined to deduct a star for that as the food was great and I’m more patient than most people.

new Japanese restaurant with a small menu. nice simple decor (wood) & dishes (a tasteful blue). Both the assorted tempura & katsudon had nice flavors and sweet but subtle sauces. The miso soup was simple yet tasty as it should be. Edamame came hot but was lovely... Was it the most amazing Japanese food? probably not but we had both lived in Japan for many years and thought the flavors were quite 'Japanesey'.... for lack of a better word (。>∀

One of the most authentic Japanese foods I’ve had in the UK/Scotland. The tempura was so crispy and my favourite was the eel tempura. Extremely tender eel and such a memorable favour. The katsudon was also an absolute pleasure to eat. The restaurant is also extremely cozy and staff was very friendly. Must try the selection of wine available when visiting. The owner has such good recommendations which goes extremely well with the food. Definitely a must try when visiting Edinburgh.

One of the best Japanese restaurant around the city and really value for money. We ordered an assorted tempura and unadon. To my surprise, the unagi is in tempura style as well, but it is equally good. Will definitely come back again! Highly recommended!

Extraordinary tempura! The decor is a stunning mix of wooden palette, simplicity and modernity, a true rare find in Edinburgh. Some of the most delicious food is on the secret menu!! All in all, highly recommend this restaurant!!
