Red Onion was, without a doubt, the most memorable and delicious evening of our four-night stay in Glasgow. As there was a coeliac at our table, we ordered everything gluten-free apart from dessert, and the experience was flawless throughout. We started with the French Onion Soup, which was truly excellent—rich, comforting, and full of depth. Portions at the restaurant are very generous, making it perfect for sharing. Everything looked so good that I completely forgot to take photos, which says a lot in itself. Next, we ordered the Crispy Goat’s Cheese Salad with candy beetroot, radish, tomato chutney, and truffle honey. Our server (we were looked after by more than one person, and every single one of them was incredibly kind and attentive) asked whether we wanted it as a main. We chose to keep it as a side—and immediately regretted not ordering it as a main. It was that good. Still unforgettable. A must-try. Proof that a salad can be absolutely outstanding. We also shared the Wild Mushroom Risotto, which was beautifully cooked and full of flavour, and the 8oz Scotch dry-aged fillet, cooked perfectly and paired with a pepper sauce that we absolutely loved. On the side, we had onion rings, which were simply fantastic. To finish, I had the vanilla cheesecake (not gluten-free), while the table also ordered an affogato (gluten-free), and it was the perfect ending to an exceptional meal. Huge thanks to the entire team for such a wonderful experience. If I ever find myself back in Glasgow, I’ll definitely be returning here—no question about it.

Great varied menu, modern classic Scottish restaurant vibe. Wine selection was good. Every menu item had great flavours. Left full and happy.

This visit was in the summer, it's just taken me a while to get around to reviewing. We'd been looking forward to trying here, I'd read good things, but we were both underwhelmed with what we received here. The chicken in the starter tasted like the kind of supermarket bought strips I buy to give to the cat. The goats cheese was okay, but I wasn't raving about it, surprised by the chunks of radish, and the chutney tasted like it was from a jar (not sure if this was the case or not) and the main course was the same, just okay, I've definitely had better elsewhere. Staff were friendly and its a nice looking place to eat. However, I can't see myself going back to eat here again, I can do just okay at home, sorry.

Restaurant close to my hotel in a rainy night with good reviews = must visit. The food was good, perhaps my choices weren't the best but I reckon it was a great scottish dining experience. The service was attentive and effective, ambience a little overwhelming to my taste but not a biggie. It was overall very good and Id certainly recommend.

I cannot share enough about this place. Wonderful atmosphere, delicious menu, wonderful options for those with allergens including dairy free, vegan, and gluten free. The staff is attentive but not overbearing and the food was absolutely delightful. This is worth a special trip! Don’t skip dessert either!

Beautiful main dishes were served which didn’t just look attractive but tasted beyond tasty! They have separate Vegan menu which is saviour for Vegetarians and Vegans both! Near perfect ambiance for any restaurant. Would rate my experience 4 stars!

Visited Red Onion a couple of weekends ago, I ate from the vegan menu and my partner from the normal menu. We tried the vegan haggis (exceptional) and French onion soup(outstanding) to start. For mains we had the bean cutlet (ok) and steak (nice but not more than this). The staff were really friendly and attentive.

Simple food, REALLY well done. We had scallops to start and steak frites to follow and both courses were sensational. Tasty, cooked to perfection and perfectly seasoned. The steak sauce was amazing. Service was great, and the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. 100% recommend coming here for a meal, you won't be disappointed.

Recommended by a good friend who deserves an upgrade to great friend! Lovely, welcoming wee place. Plenty of options for vegans like us, nice wine selection. Food was really top notch and not expensive. Will definitely be back.

Staff were awesome. Good wine selection. Nice atmosphere and lighting. We ordered from the vegan menu. Starters (Buffalo Cauliflower / Haggis and Beetroot) were absolutely first class. The main courses were less inventive - the risotto and pasta dishes were almost identical, but for the carbs.
