I had a very good lamb shank for lunch with some mashed potatoes and yorkshire pudding. Meat was very tender and delicious. Also had a fruit smoothie, which was nice. Overall, I would recommend it

Review: Alba Bistro Alba Bistro is a real gem! On our visit, we decided to try one of their traditional Scottish items in the vegetarian edition, and it turned out to be absolutely delightful. The flavors were well balanced, authentic yet creative, and it really showed how much thought they put into accommodating different diets without losing the essence of Scottish cuisine. I truly loved it! The atmosphere of the bistro is equally impressive β€” cozy, inviting, and perfect for enjoying a relaxed meal. What stood out even more was the people working there. The staff were not only attentive and polite but genuinely warm, making us feel comfortable from the moment we stepped in. Overall, Alba Bistro offers both great food and a great experience. It’s the kind of place you want to return to, and I’m already looking forward to going back on my next visit. Highly recommended!

For our last morning in Scotland we popped into Alba’s just as they were opening for the day. The staff was super friendly and the Bistro is very nice. My wife ordered the Breakfast Roll and it was the best one I’ve seen this trip. The Scottish Breakfast was fantastic. Idk if I’ll ever be a fan of Haggis, but if anyone could change my mind, it would be Alba. The bacon was perfect and cooked more to our American liking. If you are visiting or living in the Grassmarket area, Alba’s has to be at the top of your list.

Had the haggis, it was very tasty. I have not had it before so can't compare it to anything else. The service was good, waitress was friendly. It is a nice setting, however something just felt off. I can't put my finger on it. I probably would try somewhere else next time.

Lovely breakfast spot. Friendly staff. Nice ambiance. Great chai latte. Had the full British breakfast. Prices reasonable (11L for full Brit). I may be especially biased because they welcomed me as a solo traveler (even during a busy morning) instead of most places that appear to treat dining alone like a contagious disease. Vegetarian breakfast available but I didn't try because rasher bacon exists.

Less than impressed, obviously in the peak tourist trap area, but Β£10 for a panini is a bit crazy… especially when they all arrive burnt and with barely any filling, wouldn’t say the tuna β€˜melt’ was exactly melty! Chips were drab, and had to ask twice for a missing meal. Nearly Β£100 for 8 lunches that left me feeling less than satisfied was not exactly how I planned on spending my day…

This place had good food, not amazing. I got the Scottish pie with potatoes and the pie was a bit dry, like it had been made previously and was just re-heated or had been sitting under a warmer. My wife ordered a Margherita Pizza, which I guess it qualified in the sense that it had tomato sauce and mozzarella but it was what most of the world would call a β€œcheese pizza”. My brother had the kebobs and the meat was a bit dry but good overall. Again, not bad food, just not great. The prices should be lower for what was served.

Nice hole in the wall bistro. We had Steak Pie with Mash and gravy and it was good. We actually didn't expect too much coz of the bad reviews but we had a good experience. Sadly, the whole nation is on covid protocol and staff didn't wear face masks.
