I usually shop at Marks & Spencer and have always found the quality and service to be excellent. Unfortunately, this Christmas was very different. I placed an online order for Christmas food and collected it on the 23rd. When we went to use the Prawn Marie Rose on Christmas Day, it had clearly gone off, despite being properly refrigerated. It was completely unusable. I contacted M&S immediately and provided my online order confirmation, which clearly shows the order number and collection date. However, I was repeatedly asked for receipts and packaging that had already been thrown away, which I think is fairly normal when collecting food days in advance. I paid £26 for this item and was told I would receive a refund, but I am still awaiting it as it is being issued as an e-voucher rather than a cash refund. While I appreciate that a refund has been offered, this is something my family looks forward to every Christmas and it did put a dampener on the day. Given M&S’s reputation, I was disappointed with how rigid the process felt and the drop in customer service compared to what I’ve previously experienced.

I arrived just before 12pm and asked for a jacket potato with Tuna and sweetcorn, the assistant said 'oh I dont know if we have any tuna' he went and checked and he said actually yes there is tuna. The I asked for a plain jacket potato with beans but without slaw, as I have an intolerance to vinegar. I said in the past I got rocket and baby tomatoes. The assistant said that they didn't have any rocket or tomatoes. I would have thought with the marks cafe been a short distance from the food hall they could have easily gone abd got some. Its a good alternative instead of having the rainbow slaw. We enjoyed the potatoes but a little disappointed.

Had forgotten how huge this place is! On one side clothes section, on the other food. Excellent options and choices. Also easy to return (clothes) online order at the till. Needed original payment card and order number. All done in a jiffy.

Stopped for lunch and really enjoyed it, smallish menu but some really nice items available from the fridge and bakery table, spiced tumeric latte was the highlight ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Just went to M&S Cafe for lunch. 2 dishes we wanted were unavailable because they didn't have any eggs! Not the first time this has happened. Lots of fresh eggs in the food department!!

You need to have your wits about you when you try to return or exchange something. I tend to shop online as there is not a Marks & Spencer’s nearby however, I have had to visit the store twice recently for either faulty goods or ordering the wrong size of clothing. On the first visit I queued at the only tills I could see to be told that although the member of staff would assist me if I had to return goods again that were purchased online I should not come to the till, instead use the dedicated online area. So, today I went there as the goods were faulty and was informed that 1/ I need a M&S bag (not Sainsbury’s) 2/ Even though I purchased online I was told I should have gone to the till as they couldn’t exchange there 3/ The belt I purchased in store when I was last in also couldn’t be exchanged there. The member of staff was quite rude and very smug. My intentions were to get replacements but instead I asked for a refund. I should have reviewed this as 1 star but the lady at the till was very understanding.

Over past 3-4 months when shopping here the ladies toilets have been faulty and out of use. Today I visited the cafe & afterwards found toilets out of use, not sure why - it seemed to me the area leading to the toilets in the cafe was being used for pick up of Xmas turkeys etc, and I was told I could not use the toilets with no explanation. I feel if M&S are serving food & drink they should be providing the basic amenity for use of toilets. They are quite prepared to take customer’s money for the restaurant and what we buy in store (today I spent £200) but fail to provide a very basic important need. This for many people with certain conditions can be an uncomfortable inconvenience. Surely the store with a bit of foresight & better planning could make a visit to this store far more enjoyable & comfortable.

The place is clean and nice. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Variety of choices of sandwiches.

Great quality and better prices in 2019 are a good enticement to shop, particularly for essentials. Service is always good. It's not the biggest M&S in Edinburgh and perhaps tries to stock a bit of everything e.g. cards, wrapping paper, candles etc. to the detriment of clothing lines. Bureau de Change, Food Hall and a revamped cafe are also co-located in the building. Parking immediately adjacent is always busy and just requires patience. However a recent change to the till area, will be carnage at Christmas, if it stays as is. Even relatively quiet today and the queue was obstructing the main aisle. The customer in front and the couple behind both commented on it being absurd.
