I dined at EVE on Christmas Eve while traveling solo and was really looking forward to treating myself. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to expectations, especially given the cost. From the start, things felt a bit off. The entrance was confusing, and when I walked in, no one greeted or acknowledged me. I eventually asked a staff member where to go, and to his credit, he was very kind and promptly showed me to my table. I was able to order right away. I started with the focaccia and had the bolognese for my main, followed by the chocolate pudding for dessert. I also asked for a red wine recommendation to pair with the bolognese, and that was a highlight. An excellent suggestion. The focaccia was warm, delicious, and huge; more like a full pizza than an appetizer. While tasty, I wish there had been a heads-up about the portion size when ordering. After that, service dropped off significantly. Once my order was placed, no one checked on me for close to an hour. My water glass sat empty for quite some time, and I had to ask twice for refills. My main course also took a while to arrive. Granted, I had a book with me since I was dining alone, but even so, basic attentiveness felt lacking. What made this more noticeable was being able to clearly see how other tables were being treated. Larger groups (especially tables of four or more) received much more attentive service and were served their food before I was, despite arriving after me. The contrast was hard to ignore. Note: toward the end of the meal, two different servers did check on me, which I do want to acknowledge. Still, the overall experience felt inconsistent. As for the food: the bolognese was just okay, nothing memorable. The chocolate pudding was good, though I wished it came with more strawberries. All in, the meal came to about $84 USD for one person, which set an expectation for a higher level of service and overall experience. I came in really excited and left feeling pretty disappointed. There are some bright spots here, but better communication and more equitable, attentive service, especially for solo diners, would go a long way.

We had a wonderful experience here! The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Everyone was incredibly kind, friendly and welcoming from start to finish. We were there with our dog and they even brought water for him, which we really appreciated. They were also lovely with our little girl, playing with her and making us feel completely at home. A special thank you to Tom, our server, who was amazing and made our visit even more enjoyable. We will definitely be back — highly recommended!

Thank you Natalia and Laura for treating our family so well at Eve! Chef's kiss to the food! Incredible! Really neurodivergent friendly! We actually booked a future stay in the hotel based on the service! Can't wait to come back!

On an amazing sunny evening in Edinburgh we needed a refreshment but didn’t want to fight our way into our usual hostelries with the thousands of tourists about. “Eve” is the Italian restaurant that is part of the “Virgin Hotel” and although we have been to the “Commons Club” several times for food we have never bee here. We were welcomed by Martha & another young lady who very quickly took our order. We only went in for a glass of wine but ended up ordering Focaccia along with some olives. The Focaccia was freshly made and tasted amazing along with the oil & vinegar. We sat outside in the courtyard and would highly recommend this as a place to stop for a drink or a meal , it’s a little oasis. We have now returned for lunch using an Itison voucher and were very pleased we did. The voucher was for two mains with a drink for £17 which is good value but to be honest to pay the full price for lunch at £12 each is good value too and we will definitely be back. We were welcomed by the manager and shown to our table , the waitress arrived and we ordered our drinks and food which all arrived in due course. The food was faultless, extremely flavoursome and we were full with what we ordered. Although the voucher was just for a main each we ordered a starter of Bruschetta and three sides along with our pasta dishes. We had red wine with the voucher and one extra house red @ £8 too. All in all with the voucher our lunch cost £56 which was good value for amazing food. The staff were great, especially our waitress and we enjoyed our lunch immensely. Our only gripe would be that the table was too small for the amount of dishes we had so not easy to manoeuvre dishes around the table. Thanks again, see you soon!

Me and my boyfriend visited Edinburgh for my birthday in April this year and this restaurant was amazing. The lady that served us our food was so polite and friendly. She talked about our meal as she was serving it which was so nice. The food was unreal, we still talk about how good it was and how much we want to go back x

Great atmosphere with live music! The service was very attentive and the food very tasty. We ordered a few small plates and all were delicious! We definitely will come back soon.

Cool vibes inside and a fun take on a Negroni. However, the salads were beyond underwhelming. My friend got the house salad and it was just a bunch of veggies laid next to each other and no dressing. I had the mackerel salad and it was too bizarre. They were trying too hard to be innovative when sometimes keeping things simple can go a long way.

A very nice new restaurant within Virgin Hotel Edinburgh. The cheese burger was decent and the quinoa salad was alright. The service was really good and the staff were so friendly. I didn't like the atmosphere so much just because it was so noisy as the music was extremely loud, otherwise it's good.
