We went because it was relatively close to the hotel and because at the time it had 4.8 stars (I hope that when you read this comment it will have more). The service was excellent and the food not to mention! The best breakfast in all of Edinburgh without a doubt. We ordered a Scottish breakfast and some pancakes with bacon that took us to heaven.. everything was delicious and helped us to continue exploring and getting to know the city β€οΈβ€οΈ

Probably the best pancakes I've ever had! A massive stack. I was disappointed in myself for not being able to finish them. Added a side of banana for an even more indulgent breakfast feast. Service was amazing and the chef herself even checked on our satisfaction. Will definitely return again!

My wife and I went here a couple of months back. This place had been on my list for some time so was keen to give it a go. It was rather busy when we arrived one Saturday morning but thankfully they were able to a squeeze us in, literally. The cafe is small so it feels a little crammed in there with all the tables and chairs. There was one table available but in order to get to our seats we had to ask other people at the table next to us to budge along a bit to help us squeeze past. Once we were in we were comfortable and we quickly adapted to the close and ultimately cozy cafe. The cafe had an old school vibe which I quite liked. Almost felt like I was transported back 40 years ago. The menu has your classics and nothing youβve not seen before. I had heard to pancakes were really good so I got the bacon and maple. My wife got a full Scottish. The service continued that old school vibes being very friendly and authenticity themselves. You get the impression that itβs family run and you have your regulars that pop in as itβs nice to see the relationships the staff have with their customers. The lady serving us was nice but we did feel a bit rushed. Not long after getting to our seats she came to take our order. I hadnβt even had time to look around at the menu on the wall (they donβt have paper menus). I told her to comeback in 2 mins. Within 20 seconds she walked to the other side of the room and came back and asked what we wanted. I was like βeh, ok, Iβll have the bacon and maple pancakes, pleaseβ. My wife got the Scottish breakfast. In fairness, despite the greasy spoon vibes, the breakfast itself was great! The pancakes were the best Iβve had in a long time. Very thick and absolutely drenched in syrup and the bacon brought a lovely salty contrast to the sweetness! Big portion as well. My wife also praised her breakfast highly with everything being cooked well. Maybe not the highest quality of meat but it certainly done the job and filled a whole. It was also a little cheaper than many of the other breakfasts. The nice lady also took a chunk of the price off as the wife went without mushrooms and tomatoes. A good experience and Iβd recommend to anyone looking for an authentic breakfast.

Had an amazing relaxed morning at the Fountain Cafe today. Will definitely be back. Staff are incredibly welcoming and attentive! Ordered the maple and bacon pancakes and safe to say, one of the best breakfasts I have had in a while. If I could rate higher than 5* I would. A really good vibe.

Delicious food, friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere. It was lovely. I was defeated by the full Scottish, but it was worth me trying! I'll definitely go back when we're in Edinburgh again.

Located right next to our Hilton Hampton hotel we are glad we skipped the hotel breakfast and came here. The place was very busy and we shared a table with a gentleman but it was a nice friendly experience where most people interacted anyway. While here a LGBT couple walked in and were treated the same as everyone else which is great to see. The service was a little slow but we expected it when 10 people were all ordering full breakfasts. Price is on point for the area.
