Been at this gym for years but due the decline, I will part ways next month as the high membership cost no longer makes sense to me. First there is constantly at least 2 broken machines at anytime. Men’s toilet is a disaster, always one or two broken urinals (which means it smells), broken (or missing) toilet seats, broken swim suit tumbler, broken tile in the shower area, shower handles deteriorating which caused me to cut open my thumb with bit of the chrome bit stuck under my skin (When pointed to the staff, he replied he noticed the sharp edge… Yet, nothing was done until I cut myself and pointed out)… The long time staffs are super friendly, but the new are… Hem… Hit & miss, sometimes not even acknowledging you or even less saying “hi” which is a minimum at the reception. If you’re weightlifter or powerlifter, you’re being told off. There used to be a crowd or powerlifters and weightlifters, who have now (understandably) moved to specialist gyms. To add they removed the jacuzzi and increased the pricing, the membership no longer makes sense to me and I’ll be leaving next month. It’s a shame because the location is handy and the gym members and some staffs are super friendly.

I’ve been attending Nuffield Health Fountain Park with my toddler for over a year for the Saturday morning baby swim classes, which we both really enjoyed. Unfortunately, the way the recent cancellation was handled has been very disappointing. There have been many temporary cancellations since last Christmas, but this time the class was indefinitely cancelled, and we have been told that the gym would do its best to find a new instructor. However, my prepaid balance disappeared from the system, and only after I asked was I informed that I could request a refund — nothing was offered proactively. Basically, if I didn't ask, they would have just kept the money I paid. The refund process itself was unnecessarily complicated (and still ongoing, with many back-and-forth emails). And rather than offering any alternative for families affected by the cancellation, the only suggestion was to buy a full gym membership just to use the pool for one hour a week. The manager and staff have been polite and helpful throughout, but Nuffield Health has done little to fix a situation they created, offering no practical solution for loyal customers who simply want to continue swimming with their children. It’s a real shame, as it's a nice pool for toddlers, and very conveniently located, but the management and communication have been very poor. EDIT: I’ve already spoken with the reception team in person and exchanged several emails with the manager, so I don’t understand why I’m now being asked to “reach out” again. They already have my contact details and all the information about the situation. If they genuinely wanted to resolve this, they could get in touch directly. As it stands, their public reply feels like empty words meant to look good under the review, rather than a real attempt to address the issue.

I’ve been put off by the reviews and wanted to share my honest opinion after trying the gyms around and deciding for this one. It is true that it could be improved, but is not as bad as it may sound from some of these comments. Machines break, it happens in a gym where lots of people go, and even tho is true some of them take a bit to repair, they do get repaired. Staff is polite, a bit dry at some points but always polite. Haven’t hired a PT, but seen some around and they look and sound professional and nice, clearly people is happy with them and the behaviour in-gym wouldn’t make me think the opposite. Haven’t tried the classes so no comment there. Sauna and pool is great, what I would expect for a gym. It would be awesome if the dry sauna could be bigger but i don’t have complaints with it. Showers sometimes smell a bit, but nothing exagerated. Now regarding the crowd… if you go after 5:30pm on a workday is going to be buisy, but lets face it, every gym is going to be buisy at these times. It is true there is space to add some more weights/machines, but then they would be taking it from functional and cardio (and that is always full). Space between machines is ok, Nuffield could add some more of them but it would make it feel to tight and probably uncomfortable, some of them are a bit too close already. Overall is a good gym, maybe a bit expensive for what you get, but if you try and avoid busiest hours 5:30pm-7:30pm is a great space to work out and you have all you need. If you are on the fence about if you should go try the free pass on a weekend. If you will be coming after work, try it then and see how you feel. That is what i did and still decided this was my best bet for around the area.

Been a member for many years and can’t fault Nuffield Fountain Park. Excellent facilities and really friendly staff. Decent size pool, well equipped gym and regular classes. The health club is run very efficiently by management who are always responsive to any concerns / issues. Very relaxed atmosphere and always look forward to my visit. Big shout out to Manya and Leandro for your excellent customer service, friendliness and warm welcomes every time I visit. The freshly squeezed orange juice from the cafe is amazing. Keep up the good work all and well done.

Equipment constantly broken which takes months (not an exaggeration) to repair. This includes steam room and sauna. Overcrowded to the point that personal trainers actively engage to kick you off a machine to suit their own pt sessions. Completely out of order and would not recommend for the hefty price tag. Extremely unfriendly and unprofessional staff. Specifically a PT called Ian Henderson who has the ego the size of a bus. Gym is quite small too. I suggest going to the omni instead at its 3 times the size and the staff are actually nice people who want to help instead of trying to belittle you. The staff at fountain park behave the way I expect to be treated at an edinburgh leisure gym or a pure gym. And even then I wouldn’t be happy being treated that way. Not worth the money. Avoid at all costs. Alternatively go down and book a session with Ego Ian to experience it for yourself.

I walked 25 mins to try this Nuffield gym for swimming only to be told "we don't offer towels here but you maybe be able to buy one at the vending machine." The vending machine is empty. I've never ever had a gym does this without stating clearly anywhere on their website. Very very disappointed.

Gym itself is well equipped and large, however, multiple machines have been out of order for weeks on end. There is a wide variety of classes, but they get booked up quickly. Pool, steam room and sauna are all great. Changing rooms could use a refresh, especially showers where mould is starting to form. Would expect a towel service at the price point. Overall, a conveniently located gym, with free parking (if that's of importance), lots of racks and choice of machines and free weights. Extensive cardio section. Cost of membership is on the steeper side.

Been going here for years, its deteriorated during this time. Machines lay broken and out of use for months on end. There is 1 bench press and a small free weights room. It seems oversubscribed with memberships so you can't use much unless you go in the early or late hours. Someone had left barbell plates by the squat rack and after I used the rack I got passively aggressive confronted by a PT saying "you gonna leave me to pick up your plates" while turning and walking away, even though they were there before I started using the machine. Really annoyed me that, so enjoy your 1 star.

Been a member here for just over a year and is an excellent gym and has great amenities such as a pool, steam room, jacuzzi and sauna which is always really nice to use after a work out. The staff are always really polite and helpful.
