What a stunning bar tucked away in Advocate’s Close, right off the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. We were visiting from London and looking for a great cocktail spot for the evening and this place absolutely delivered. Aesthetically beautiful, with amazing cocktails and genuinely attentive service. Not to mention their exquisite whisky collection, which is an experience in itself. The small plates were delicious too, making it the perfect spot to unwind. Highly recommended.

It’s an overall nice place. We had soup, some starters, and really good truffle fries. The service felt a little bit pushy at times, but also quite attentive, so maybe it was just the Sunday evening vibe. The whisky Old Fashioned was great, and the cocktail To the Point - highly recommend, super tasty. Overall, an average good experience

We sat outside because restaurant was packed. It was chilly but quiet and very nice. Waiters were very good. The pork chop was excellent. The flat iron steak was supposed to be medium, but it came well done. The honey and buttered greens were excellent. Definitely recommend to come here.

Most lists have this as the place to go for a top notch whisky selection and I see why. Wonderfully designed flights to provide whatever variety you want. Couple this with 391 more you could try off the self and you’ll need to have an exit plan and a way to get home. The flights give very generous pours. It’s worth it to share the flight. I loved my tour of Scotland and the help the staff gave with the journey was invaluable. The food was borderline boutique but plentiful and very good. Sitting outside provides a nice feel for people watching and the inside is a great slice of history. A must stop.

Great spot for both intimate dinners and big group hangouts. The bar strikes a cool balance between rustic and modern, and their whisky tasting flight is a fun touch—especially for anyone visiting Edinburgh. We had the duck, hake, haggis, and crab cakes. All were decent, though nothing mind-blowing. The crab cakes came out a bit cold, which was a letdown. Overall, the food was just okay, but the ambience and drinks made up for it. Bonus points for their wine list—the Picpoul was genuinely excellent.

Had a really great dinner with family. It was during the week and the restaurant was not too crowded. The food was divine! We were a large group - one of our waiters were very helpful and went out of her way to accommodate us. They gave us a little over two hours for our meal (before the next booking) which I feel was a little short.

Hadn't been here for many years but took the opportunity at Christmas of paying a visit. Located in an old Victorian building in a lane (or close as its called in Edinburgh) off the Royal Mile. Lovely setting. Fantastic selection of whisky (about 300) as well as a half dozen red wines and decent local beers (Pilot, Newbarns & Tempest breweries). We only came in for drinks. Friendly service.

Devil’s Advocate, one of the best whisky bars in the world, is tucked away in Advocate’s Close and is a wonderful hidden gem in Edinburgh’s old town. Come here for a wonderful grill selection, delicious whisky flights, and tasty whisky cocktails. I’ve been here twice and the food has always been top notch. The crispy black haggis was interesting, even though I’m not a fan of haggis I actually liked this one. The chicken wings seasoned with Laphroig whisky gives it a smokey character. The venison was really good, and you can also order a really good rib eye steak. The Devil’s Advocate is truly top notch when it comes to food and drinks! Highly recommended.

The food here is good! The fried haggis starter tastes really nice and authentic. Less spiced than others I tried In Edinburgh though. The large chicken wings portion is fine and really really large. The chickpea burger was delicious. The steak meat was of good quality but even though I asked for medium rare, I got it more on the medium to medium well side. The service was a bit messy, we got the appetizers before the drinks even though the drinks were ordered first. The steak as said was more cooked than I asked for. Also at the end, they were very late with the bill. A table asked for the bill like 10 minutes after us and got it before us.

Excellent bar with a generous whisky selection and a sufficient number of beers on tap. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The bartenders are very friendly, entertaining and knowledgeable. The food is good, but do get a reservation as the Devil’s Advocate gets really busy most days. The surroundings are beautiful too, so don’t miss this stop while in Edinburgh.
