Really enjoyed our stay at Ao Hostels. We had a blast at Bar Fifty with the Monday quiz and karaoke. The host was great fun. The way he encouraged everyone to sing showed how much he likes what he does. Would recommend every time

Fantastic bar just at the head of Cowgate with tons of fantastic drinks, great food, very friendly staff, and enough events to keep you entertained and coming back day after day. I'm a bit of a karaoke fiend myself, and this is one of the few places in Edinburgh where you can properly get up on front of the room and sing your heart out. The host is very encouraging, and makes sure you feel welcome. This is now going to be a regular haunt of mine when I'm in Edinburgh.

Order pizzas here at your own peril! The atmosphere is good and the drinks are all fine but the food is abhorrent. Their menu claims their pizzas are handmade, but it looks more like they chucked a pizza from the local Lidl supermarket in the oven and even managed to burn it and took a WHOLE HOUR just to do that. £12.5 for the entire thing as well. Disgusting.

We ordered pizza margherita, halloumi fries, chips, onion rings, some beers, and what I believe is the salt and spices chicken (?). Foods are nice, the atmosphere is cozy, relaxing, and lively even when it was monday night (perhaps because of The Fringe).

I think this bar is attached to a hostel and it also attracts quite a big student crowd, which is always nice (keeps it cheap and cheerful). I bought a Groupon voucher for burger, side and drink, and it was superb value. The original prices on the menu are already pretty reasonable so it’s defs a good spot for a bite and drink!

Booked the pool, pizza and beers Groupon deal. Had a fantastic Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, one chef called in sick, so the other came in early to cover. This meant a short wait for our food but to be honest, we didn’t mind. We were offered two extra free beers and played pool for around two and a half hours! Have to say, the two pizzas were definitely worth the wait. Most important, the staff (a young dark haired lady) really looked after us and kept us informed of everything. Exceptional service when things went a little wrong. We will be back.

Shame, not what i was expecting. It is really more of a hostel, with hostel style menu etc. The food was very basic and not very tasty. There is plenty of seating both indoors and outside and the staff were all very friendly and helpful.

It was hell Friday. We booked for bd party. But we struggled by alcohol. Bar system is rubbish, way slow. I stayed in the queue for buying pints more than enjoying with friends. But private room was good.

This place was my first home when i came in Edinburgh. I didn’t expect it to be what the vibe is all day long. I planned to stay there for 6 days but i loved the environment so much that i extended it to 12 days. Honestly I used to wake up in the morning, explored the city center and after a tiring day, i was served best beers with best snacks. The best exposure that i have gotten for any city is for Edinburgh and the credit goes to Bar 50. It’s a full fledged students bar with affordable drinks and cocktails and snacks too. The taste is authentic and they will provide sauces as per your wish, any sauce or sides you want is there for you. The staff is so humble and well behaved, that they have been really helpful to me in so so so many ways. I would give 30% credit to their helping hands for an amazing time i had there. Highly appreciated. I would recommend this place to every student out there in Edinburgh to come party and have a great great time with your friends. Whether it’s your birthday, weekends, freshers, fair-well or bachelorette just come and party hard at bar50. Cheers
