We came for the Sunday roast and it was absolutely spot on. Properly done, full of flavour, and exactly what you expect from a great British pub. What really stood out was how welcoming the place is. We were allowed to bring our dog inside and even received a dog treat at the entrance, which was a lovely touch and says a lot about the attitude of the team. Friendly service, relaxed atmosphere, and a genuinely British feel throughout. A place where you immediately feel comfortable and welcome. We will definitely be back.

Wow! Wow! Wow! We went to Zizi and they were terrible, see review, so we left before we even sat down. Coming out we noticed this venue. The Black Lion staff were genuinely welcoming to our party of 7. Sat us at two round tables and then a round booth became free and they asked us if we’d like that. We did. Brilliant! From there the service just got even better. The tall female and the short female were exceptional. Friendly, attentive and funny too. Also, I think I had the best pie I have ever had and the gravy was divine. Recommended. Absolutely.

It’s been a while since my trip, but the memories are still vivid, so I wanted to leave a review. The batter of the fish and chips was truly a masterpiece — light and crisp beyond imagination. Even after some time, it didn’t get soggy, and the fish stayed juicy and perfectly intact. The beer was fantastic, and the service was very friendly. I’m grateful to have made such a happy memory on my first trip to Brighton. Thank you.

Quiet mid-week visit after lunch but before dinner. We had a nice meal/snack. Mac & cheese and fish & chips. Friendly service and good meal. Thank you

What a GREAT Sunday roast. Every element of it was delicious. It was a nice sunny day so we were able to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine. Great selection of drinks too!

The bartender was rude and made fun of us. The food was average but the wait time was terrible. Do not recommend. The beef roast had 2 slices of meat which is NOT THE VIBE for Sunday roast. Also the glasses were DIRTY and the water was not clean. VERY VERY DISSATISFIED

Nachos here are delicious!!!! It was such a pleasant surprise as we were super hungry and just picked a pub at random, but both are meals were epic. The burger was so juice it dropped (yum!) and the nachos were everything you want in a nachos honestly. Would try again if I was in Brighton! I would recommend sitting inside maybe? There were lots of flies outside

When the whole street is named after your pub you know you’re doing something right. The quality food sign up front lives up to its promise. The views are great and they do have a Biergarten at the back too.

I didn't come to Brighton to eat nachos, but ... these were among the best I've ever had... ever. The bar tender who was full of humor suggested the Nachos and they were right.. more than enough for 3 hungry people. Everyone enjoyed and there was a vegetarian option. The IPA was delicious... good atmosphere, Very enjoyable.
