Overall, very disappointing visa application experience: 1. The eVisa platform is frustrating: constant simple IT errors like file-type, extension, strict limits, and messy upload rules. 2. They asked for an employer letter for a simple tourism trip even though all my financial and status documents were complete, something other embassies, like Belgium’s, don’t require at all, and the Belgium JP embassy even offered me a multi-entry visa. 3. The official itinerary sample says it’s fine to write something general like “(Location) day trip,” yet mine wasn’t accepted and they expected detailed plans down to where exactly to visit or eat. 4. Their contact mailbox is completely silent, no replies at all.

I’ve never met embassy staff as unreasonable and deliberately difficult as this one. An Asian woman with short hair and a bit of a round face wouldn’t let me finish my sentence, twisted my words, and then started to make things hard for me. She deliberately told me to book appointment again because my bank statement didn’t cover six months, even though the official website clearly said three months. So I immediately went to the bank to print the full six months and rushed back — then she said the balance wasn’t enough and asked if I had more proof of funds. I said no more, pls submit it. In the end, when I went to pick up my passport, they gave me a five-year multiple-entry visa. So what was she even doing? Was she just trying to make things difficult on purpose?

Very unassuming building but beautiful inside. The staff are all really kind and polite. The visa space is small which means wait times are not that long.

I had a really smooth experience applying for my Working Holiday Visa here. The staff were polite, efficient, and explained the process clearly. Everything was well organised, and they gave me all the details I needed without any hassle. Very professional service.

Booked appointment on Friday, checked by security team on the appointment letter and then X ray bags. Warmly welcomed by staff and guided to the kiosk to get into queue. Checked every paper details and finished in 20 mins. The whole process is clear and quite easy to follow. I handed in visa application on Friday, got collection letter stating the passport can be collected next Friday

What an incredibly painless and efficient service. As long as you have the paperwork and in the right order, it'll take you no time. My visa appointment was one minute and I had my collection date booked when I left the building. I had to check on the way out if I had missed anything because I couldn't believe who easy it was. Collection also took no time and only cost £20. It is very easy to book an appointment on the website too.

Security guards and a welcoming lady in the front were so nice and friendly, they gave a very good atmosphere, but the staff lady for the visa section in locker 6 was rude. I've applied for visas in many embassies but the staff lady in this embassy was just the worst in my experience.

Just had my visa appointment, very polite and flexible staff. I had my deposit account statements for the last 3 months, and the last statement of my savings account which was unfortunately 3 months ago, however they needed a more recent temporary statement for the last months on the savings so they accepted my application and allowed me to go to the bank branch and bring the temporary statement afterwards :) can’t complain about anything.

The staff are welcoming and friendly, I love the efficiency and speed of the whole process. There is a beautiful exhibit on the four seasons of Japan in the building too, which a lovely way to spend a Zenful 10 or so minutes. Thank you Embassy of Japan staff for making it a nice experience.

Pretty efficient. Note their lunch hours are 1pm to 2pm, so don't bother turning up between those hours. After going through security, you must go to the ticket machine to get a ticket for the counters. Then you must wait till the ticket number comes up on screen.
