Rooms out back. Very quaint and dated. OK for 1 night. Beds small.

Budget price, great location, bit old. So the reviews for The Old Lamb vary and for good reason, its a really hard one to hate but also hard to love. With some effort this place could be 5/5 The accommodation block is behind the beautiful thatched inn and is very 'motel' esque. I booked a single room which was exactly that, a small room equipped with a front door (to the car park), window, excellent radiator, small table, kettle etc and small TV. There was free WiFi and a surprisingly large if dated en-suite. Ideal for solo travellers. The decor is old. The duvet cover a bit more 'nan's house' than hotel and the carpet has seen better days. But, those of us just looking for a place to sleep whilst working away from home generally don't care about the wallpaper or art on the walls. The bathroom was dusty, the wooden towel rail and soap dish really need replacing and the shower head had lost its metallic finish. The toilet was clean and the shower and sink on par with most other budget hotels in terms of cleanliness. I think this area has generally hard water and that was evident here. I had no issues with the hot water from the shower (which others have complained about) the water pressure was also fine. The bed was comfortable and I had a reasonable quality sleep. The rooms aren't particularly well sound proofed but the other guests weren't noisy and the person practicing guitar in an adjacent room was actually quite pleasant to listen to! I didn't try breakfast as I had to be at an early appointment which was a real shame as the restaurant inside the inn looked lovely as did the sausages I could see coming from the kitchen. For the money The Old Lamb is ridiculously good value, but I'd rather they charge for breakfast and invest in the rooms a little more instead. I'd like to say I'd stay again, and I might, but only if they ask the cleaner to give the bathrooms a better scrub down and buy some new bed linen. Overall it's worth a try versus a Travelodge (at the same price and minus breakfast) not the worst place I've stayed, but lots of room for improvement. 4/5 based on value for money, location, parking and staff.

Very small single room, with en-suite, but had everything I needed, and was very clean, with comfortable bedding, towels, mirror, tea-making facilities, and full English breakfast included. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It felt secure, and my car was parked right outside my room. Perfect location for my needs, close to M4 and also IKEA. Value for money.

Rooms are very small as is bathroom. Bed was comfy enough but has to be a small double to fit in room. Bedside lights directly above pillows so hit my head on them a dozen times. Was nice and warm in midwinter from 5 pm till 10.30 but then heating goes off and room is very cold for rest of night till 6 am then off again about 10 till later in afternoon. Breakfast was very nice served by nice lady which offset slightly miserable male manager who is don't think wants to be there. For a single night stopover not too expensive was OK but wouldn't want you stay more than 1 night

A clean and comfortable room . The price was good although the room was a little small. Easy check in with friendly staff. Breakfast was included and very tasty. I would stay again if in the area

Couldn't get a room en route from Reading to Bournemouth for under £160. This place has one for £57. I was dubious but had to do it. Thank God I did. Nice little run of rooms, basic, a little dated but clean and equip with everything you would need. View from my room over the church, TV, tea and coffee, good shower, desk and chair and two beds. Looking forward to breakfast.

We had one night here to attend a funeral. The room is in a block at the back of the main building. To say it is dated is an understatement but the bed was clean and comfy and we had what we needed in the room. Breakfast was very good and the Manager let us stay an extra half an hour in the morning which helped a lot. All in all the stay here served us well and is near Reading where we had to go.

Decor from the 70's and a mattress that feels like it's from the same decade. Described as Historic and charming and has apparently carried over the water pressure from when it was originally built in a effort to be authentic....there was concern if I would actually be able to remove the suds during my shower or have enough pressure for other matters. No food available and the website provides minimal information about where you can eat or the fact that most places stop serving food at 9 locally. On the plus side at least I didn't have to worry about sleeping through my alarm, the thin walls meant the car parked next to my room woke me up when they pulled off early in the morning and as a backup I could hear everything from the room above... Every step, flush and otherwise.... All in all not a great stay.

The only good thing about this hotel was the breakfast. The room was up some outside stairs, tiny and cold. Couldn't get the radiators going and the bedroom windows didn't seal properly which didn't help. Didn't try the shower as it was just too cold in the bathroom. The beds were lumpy and uncomfortable. If the breakfast had been bad it would have been one star.
