After a slightly difficult to our visit, when we discovered somehow our reservation wasn't on the system, 8 of us for an 80th birthday lunch, staff hurried round to organise a table in a private room for which we were all very grateful. All of the food was of very good quality, well presented good sized portions and all served in good time. The whole party of 8 enjoyed the visit and the food and drink, and will return

We had Sunday lunch and the food was nice and a good standard, the restaurant was open and had a lovely walled garden at the back. The staff were pretty good when we first arrived with ordering drinks and food, the service was not as attentive when things got busy in the restaurant later but not a big issue. The main reason for the 3 star review is the cost, it was £27 for a roast chicken (£30 including service charge) which even by standards in the South East of England was expensive. At some point people are going to stop going out for a 'gastropub' Sunday roast anymore, there is only so far you can buy into the line that businesses have to pass on cost of living rises to the customer. I can still get a decent roast for £18 elsewhere. The Royal Oak also felt very much like a restaurant rather than a pub that served meals, it is not the sort of place I would really go for a pint. The local cask beer was OK but nothing special if you like your real ales.

The service here is absolutely brilliant - that is what hits you when you arrive first arrive. We were welcomed by Peter - who is an absolute master of his craft and so charming. Our lunch was delicious and the whole atmosphere was just perfect on a really grey and damp Saturday lunchtime. We will be back soon. Thank you

We stumbled upon this place by chance on our way back home and are so glad we did! The food was absolutely delicious, with fresh ingredients and great flavor. The service was genuinely warm and welcoming — everyone made us feel right at home. The space itself is stunning, with a beautifully designed dining room and an open kitchen that adds a lovely touch. A hidden gem we’ll definitely be coming back to!

Manager was good when there but wasn't at the end. No one checked if everything was fine or any acknowledgement on leaving and more to the point both fish and chicken were really bland. Might have been a bad day at the office but we would have appreciated better food and experience for the price.

Freezing cold shower which seems to be an ongoing problem here that they are not willing to fix. Heating was switched off in my bedroom and I was given a tiny electric heater which made no effect what so ever. The property itself is lovely and the rooms are tastefully decorated. If you like a warm shower and room don't stay here.

Nice place in a gorgeous village. We were looking for somewhere to have a best friend natter over lunch which we did. I can't fault the pub, the service or the location. But parking was impossible and the two pizzas we had were over priced and bland. We couldn't stretch to other food options (this is an expensive eatery) and the topping choices were really weird, unappetizing and the pizza crust too thick and doughy. I'd have been really disappointed had the food been our reason for meeting up there!

Lovely pub, great atmosphere and delicious food. Three old friends had excellent food here, arrived 1pm, didn't leave until 4.40pm. We were not rushed or made to feel it was time to leave. Would happily return.

I'd really like to give it 5 stars as the dishes were excellent, as was the wine but there were a few niggles. Food was a bit cool, probably left on pass too long, and service was a bit lax. I put this down to the inexperience of the waiting staff as they had clearly been in job only a short while. The children's menu clearly said at the top 2 courses £11.50 but one of the desserts carried an additional £5 which wasn't made totally clear on the menu. I thought that a bit sneaky. The setting is lovely. The fire was roaring and the cleanliness was superb. Toilets really nicely designed with high end toiletries.

Called in after getting let down by another venue. Dog and Child friendly, we had one course and thank God we did....very generous portions. Not the cheapest but the quality amply made up for it. Highly recommended I would be happy to visit again.
