Just had my room cancelled after booking 3 months ago with the reason given that the management have an exclusive contract and can just cancel at any time. Leaving me 2 weeks to now find alternative accommodation. I would avoid booking with this hotel at all costs as it treats its customers with no respect or guarantees at all. Absolutely shocking service will never use Mercure again.

Yes, the hotel itself is run down and needs an overhaul but our stay was just fine, onsite parking was simple and the breakfast was good. There was some confusion on my booking but props to Kelly on check in who sorted it with minimum fuss and added a free breakfast as an apology. Mercure - Kelly is a credit to your hotel, very professional and courteous and sorted something the guest experience manager couldn't.

Great central location in the historic district of Southampton and only £5.00-6.00 Uber ride the port. We stay at quite a few Mercure’s and this is the first that we had a room that we were somewhat disappointed in. Granted we only stayed one night. The hotel is a historic property so the are probably limited in what they can do as far as updates. We d see stayed in a basic King room in the main building. The building throughout was clean. The room was warm, had an old window that barely opened four inches and only had a small fan in the closet. The floor tile in the bathroom was missing grout but otherwise clean. Would I stay there again? Probably but would look for another room type.

A very old (250 years+) building - 4 star but not modern and pristine. Gradually being refurbished. Centre of Southampton, room great, especially bathroom. Can sometimes be a bit noisy. Staff helpful and friendly.

Public areas are nice and staff were friendly, however, most of those encountered do not seem to understand how the hospitality industry works, with some health and safety issues regarding handling food/ice/drinks and over sharing of personal information. It would have been nice if we were asked how our stay was, or how we slept and a smile and good morning as we entered the breakfast room would have been welcomed. The room was dated, peeling paint on the radiators and window frames and bumpy carpet. The room was like a furnace with a squeaky fan that just moved hot air. It was cooler outside however I didn't want to leave my window open as the room was accessible to anyone due to the massive pile of bin bags and dirty laundry that was just below our window and i was travelling alone with my daughter and felt vulnerable. The bed was so comfortable which was a blessing as was awake most of the night. I definitely would not want to spend a night in room 16 again. My daughter was feeling unwell for most of the afternoon /evening so she was not up to a room move had we asked and there are no phones in the rooms to be able to contact reception. Great location, room toiletries were nice. A definite need to add air conditioning and decorate this room. Some work is required for this to be a 4*hotel.

Disgusting beyond disgusting. I review lots on Google and to be honest this place is so poor. I was completely flabbergasted by the incompetence of the staff the standards of the hotel and every aspect of my safe and lovely and very very expensive weekend with my children. 1. Rejected linen, on the bed 2. Privilege coffee machine covered in dust 3. Unit under fridge had a thick layer of grey dust 4. Double bed had a thick layer of dust underneath 5. Amenities in room had not been replenished, they were used and not replaced 6. Stains on all of the carpets 7. No sign of any vacuum being used in the room 8. Electric fan in room was not safe and stable. 9. Curtain by the side of the bathroom was full of dust and white particles 10. Body hair in the bathtub 11. Lamp shade broken 12. The corridor wall was covered in some form of dried liquid 13. The net curtain had the same 14. Cups in the room were not cleaned. 15. We had to move the mattress from the base of the bed to make a make-shift bed for my children and i to sleep on as there was no sofabed or extra bed in the room for which we paid. Horrific is a slight understatement.

Arrived at 5pm, late as stuck in traffic, we had to call a number to get a staff member to reception. Did this and waited ages for someone to arrive. Was told that our room was still not ready. Seemed others were hanging around in the bar and had also been waiting for their room to be ready. Corridors were dirty and it had an old smell about it. Got to room and there was no bedding for the sofa bed for the kids and the window wouldn't close. Went down to ask for bedding and there was a queue at reception and no staff in sight. After about 10 minutes a few staff members walked passed reception but didn't come to help. Finally someone came and I complained about the bedding and she just said someone will bring some, no apology or anything, she didn't seem bothered. The room was very basic and hardly 4 star. As the window wouldn't close we could hear all the noise through the night from the people outside. Just wasn't the best experience for the price we paid. Also paying £5 to park in their own car park was a bit cheeky considering you've paid to stay there anyway.

Tired but comfortable the room:- I stayed for a business trip, good sized room with a comfortable bed, however there was only one tiny window. The décor of the whole hotel was tired and felt a little unloved. My room was noisy in the morning and it did feel like someone was showering in the room with me! Room advertised as having an espresso maker however this was not in the room (and the only reason I got the larger room), I went to the desk and they said they would put one in the room while I was out getting dinner. Unfortunately this did not happen. The Staff:- The reception staff were helpful on check out and even printed my boarding card for my flight which was nice. if the staff hadn't been as nice as they were my review may have not been as positive. Summary:- I know some people pay a lot to stay here as a pre/ post cruise and may be disappointed. The building is very old and the floors are uneven and creak all the time, I like a bit of character so this wasn't a problem for me but may be a concern for people with mobility issues. Very convenient location for walking to the town centre.
