What lifesavers these lovely people are! I had a parent admitted urgently to a&e Winchester Hospital and found myself having to find a last min room for the night. The welcome and help could not have been kinder or sweeter. I slept like a log. The room was fabulous! And I would love to know what make the bed topper and pillows are as they were brilliant too. The pub is only a 10 minute walk from the hospital so absolute gem of a find. Thank you to the very kind staff who made a very touch day significantly better. Given the emergency nature of the room, the only icing on the cake Id like to suggest is the option to buy sample sized toothbrushes and toothpastes, eye make up remover. But really that would make it 6 stars. It is already brilliant.

Stayed for a short break to visit the Cathedral, Christmas Market and shops. The Westgate’s central position was ideal for access to everything. Room very comfortable. Food excellent and all the staff couldn’t have been more helpful. Would highly recommend and hope to be able to return one day soon. Thankyou

The staff and pub were friendly, a great selection of drinks and nice feel. The breakfast was well cooked and good quality selection of buffet items. The location is great as so close to the center, but not on the noisy high street. The only downside was the room which needs refreshing. Tired carpet, loose shower fitting and a roughly 3" gap under the door. Having uneven floors is expected in an old building and part of the charm, but this doesn't preclude fitting a threshold for privacy and controlling noise. If the room was cheaper it may be tolerable, but not at the price charged.

We used the Westgate as our Weddig reception venue. The food and accommodation were outstanding – we honestly couldn’t have asked for more. The team were so professional, friendly, and on the ball the entire day – they made sure everything ran like clockwork so we could just relax and enjoy ourselves. The food was INCREDIBLE – so many of our guests said it was the best wedding food they’ve ever had! From the drinks to the main meal and evening snacks, everything was delicious and beautifully presented. The rooms were lovely too – super comfortable and clean, though those steps are an interesting climb in a Wedding dress! I personally really liked the character and whimsical feel of the building, but can imagine it's not for everyone, so worth checking out. They made the whole experience feel so smooth and effortless, and we’re genuinely so grateful for everything. Highly, highly recommend!

I've only ever been in for a drink three or four times but this is a really nice bar, clean, welcoming, good selection of craft beers and great service. Perfect spot for a quiet afternoon pint. Please keep doing the Lilly's ciders my girlfriend loves them.

Highly recommend. Great atmosphere, decent selection of beers and the first time in a very long time I’ve paid for 2 pints and the first figure not been in double digits! Had a Turkey and bacon sandwich and chips, absolutely lovely, for what could be such a simple sandwich was just great.

Fantastic pub just 2 mins walk up the hill from the centre of town. Booked a table for 6 for dinner on a bitterly cold Saturday before Christmas. On entering the pub it had a great feel and hub-hub about it. Bar staff very friendly and helpful. Table reserved was wonderful (no 16) right in front of the fire - so very welcome on this cold day. Menu isn't extensive but everything was executed very well and all food came out lovely and hot and very well presented. Thoroughly lovely meal. Pub had candles and they'd gone to a lot of trouble to dress it festively for Christmas. The meal hence was just perfect. Great find. We will definitely be back. Thank you.

Good old pub! and a nice / affordable place to stay in Winchester, close to the train station as well. I’d like to thank Kirsty and her team for the hospitality!

Disappointing to get my tapped beer with some crumpled plastic scum floating in it. The bartender claimed that it came from the keg. But there is no way that the plastic could have come through the spigot. There was no apology. Just a fresh pour. A better establishment would have comped the beer with a big sorry.
