Outing with friends in Manchester

“This place should be way busier than it is! The food is fantastic, the cocktails, even better. The staff are wonderful as well. Had such a good time our first visit that we came back the next day for a repeat dinner and drinks before I leave Manchester tomorrow.”

“What a beautiful pub!! We first discovered stockport for afternoon drinking ( before lockdown) from a trip out with our local historian and Sentinel writer Mervyn Edwards.. we fell in love with the preserved Victorian history and friendly locals...since then we travel from stoke and stay over regularly. This visit I particularly wanted to discover the Star and Garter. Stunning building...on entrance we were warmly welcomed by barman Craig.. it was fascinating to learn about the pubs history and Craig's family working within the pub trade for generations. Of course we enjoyed Robinsons Iron Maiden bitter.. a perfect pint..a creamy head all the way down the glass! A cash only pub... my husband always supports Cash is King ! A lovely traditional friendly local pub.. we'll definitely visit again.”

“Lovely little park. It's great for kids and familes. Dog friendly. It's clean and tidy. And At the side of a rugby club. Activities usually are here in the summer so there is more for children and families.. There is also a carpark to use.”

“A park near M60 with a few on-street parking bays. The park is clean and so relaxed to walk around. Also, there is a tree trail in the park and you may find birds and squirrels in it.”

“Update: I first reviewed 3 years ago (see below), we live locally and still come here including tonight and again the food was lovely and even my fussy partner was happy with his dishes. Tarka daal was outstanding, chicken tikka tender, breads competently made. Very surprised at the bad reviews, noticed many are takeaway, we usually dine I'm and it's always been a good experience. Staff are also really lovely, we were put off by a really noisy group and they went to some trouble to set up the upstairs for us. Also offered us a bigger more comfortable table downstairs initially, even though it was fairly busy on a Friday night. So what one reviewer said about being made to sit at the smallest table is not the case now. Nice relaxed place to have a great quality curry at a reasonable price. Just to point out to another reviewer slating the food for not being authentically Indian: the restaurant is Bangladeshi, not Indian. The flavours are well balanced and nans cooked to perfection - fresh and fluffy soft with some browned bits. Samosas are large and taste freshly made, definitely above average quality. Fish dishes especially recommended, really tender. I've eaten here lots and with various people, and we've hardly even had a dish we've not been completely happy with. The staff make an effort and have a sense of humour.”

“Live around the corner from this pizza takeaway. It's not been open long so tonight we had the pizza takeaway and a garlic bread. First off ,real home baked pizza dough, second was the box was bone dry,no dripping grease under the pizza which was absolutely beut. The choice of garlic bread and pizza toppings are amazing. All in all.10/10 from me. New owners should be proud.”

“Lovely cafe in a great location, the menu offers a great range of hot drinks , cakes and sandwiches. I personally had a nice coffee and slice of carrot cake. Would recommend especially as staff are so lovely and polite. The man who served me (Adam) was extremely helpful as I am new to the area gave good recommendations. I look forward to coming back to the cafe on another sunny day!”

“Best pub in Swinton by a country mile and by far the cheapest too. DJ on at the weekends and occasionally a live singer. No real ale (it would just not sell here) But plenty of other options. Great staff and good service.”

“Only outside seating area available because of lockdown, but had a brilliant fish and chip lunch in the large marquee in their beer garden today. Excellent food, friendly staff, and a heated marquee. Understand they have a new chef and a new menu which includes a cooked breakfast. Looking forward to returning soon for another meal.”

“We have just moved into the area and decided to take a chance on this place after a long day of unpacking. What a wonderful evening we had! We were greeted and served by Luize, Kate, and Sue who were all very warm, welcoming, and inviting. The food was gorgeous and exactly what we needed, and the atmosphere was great (I'm an 80s child and to hear lots of the music of the time was just the icing on the cake for me). Firmly think this will be one of our favourite places for the foreseeable future! Thank you guys for making a very hard day that much more bearable!”

“Amazing! Nicola is a the exact person you want to see in a play centre/restaurant. Me and my children were welcomed from the front door (first time) and showed the play area, made conversation and made us feel at home as soon as we arrived. Nicola is clearly a child friendly lady (surprisingly not all play centre staff are!) she was happy, energetic, polite, funny and looked after everyone there even as it got busier. A massive relief to feel like this when you have a child who can be easily overstimulated and the reaction of new adults and environments can have a huge affect on behaviour. Tilly was so happy and couldn’t wait to get in and also spoke to Nicole as she clearly felt comfortable. Great play area for my 3 and 1 year old. After attending many play areas the staff make a huge different to wanting to return! Nicola told us about the sessions we will definitely be attending for SEN. Can’t wait to use our play passes and come back again and again!! Thanks Nicola xx Beth (Tilly and Mary) also breakfast was yummy thanks chef !”

“Great experience! We took 5 kids bowling for my daughter’s 7th Birthday. The staff were great. We asked to switch lanes to give us a bit more space and they did so happily. We ordered drinks for all of the kids and 2 coffees for us, all great. Sharon was especially friendly and helpful. Thanks for a great time!”

“A great pool and exercise facilities in the centre of Ashton-under-Lyne. Car park at the rear of the building. Close to transport links. Staff are really helpful and very friendly. Swimming is fully open now and you do not have to prep book online for swimming.”

“Very good location, large beer garden. Very reasonable priced meals. Staff friendly and welcoming. Loads of offers on food throughout the week, very extensive menu. Plenty of choices. Only downside is if you go via the front entrance my auntie who uses a walking aid can not access the toilets. Other then this we've had a good few lovely meals.”
