We booked a stay here when we attended the illumimations in Matlock Bath, and we loved our stay, the rooms were small but well equippee, and the hotel is well decorated. We will definitely be back!

Stayed on 4th October 2025 & had to wait nearly an hour to check in as no staff on site. Bar was supposed to be open until 9pm but went to buy a bottle of wine at 8.40pm & the bar was all locked & the staff had gone home. Went down for breakfast the next morning & the coffee machine didn't work & the lady did not know how to fix it. Waiting nearly an hour for breakfast with no coffee. . ! We stayed at The High Tor back in 2019 & we could not fault it back then, hence re booking for my Birthday, however it ha sadly since changed ownership. The windows are falling apart, there are cobwebs everywhere & the folage in the grounds is looking very unkept & looks very rundown! What a shame it has fallen into this state & Very poor service from the few staff that we did see. Avoid at all cost !

Just returned from a one night stay and we were very surprised to find such a nice hotel in such a great location. It's about a 15 minute walk to Matlock Spa and maybe a bit longer walk in the other direction to Matlock Bath. The hotel is very nice, very clean and comfortable, rooms have kettle, tea bags, coffee etc lovely comfy bed and pillows. Only downside to our room (number 6) was that there was very bright outside light that shone upwards from ground level into our room so it felt as though you were trying to sleep under a spotlight. Not great but was ok for our one night stay. Apart from that everything was lovely. Easy parking, no problems. Can't comment on food or drinks as we didn't sample any there. Would recommend this lovely place and will return in the future

We arrived on the Friday evening to find no one at reception and all the internal doors locked. There was a note to say we should phone to get the reception staff to come downstairs. We did this and about 10 minutes later a young man arrived. He couldn’t find our booking because he was looking for the first name and not the surname and they had booked the room under my Husband’s name even though I was the one who booked and paid for it! He didn’t provide any information for us. When we asked about breakfast, he pointed to the notice on the nearby table with the times. As he didn’t say we had to book a slot, we assumed you could turn up. We asked about the restaurant but he didn’t know anything about that. We went elsewhere to eat as the restaurant and bar were behind a door which was locked all evening. There was no information about when it would be open. The room was clean and fairly comfortable. The door to the bathroom stuck every time it was opened which led to several stubbed toes. There was no spare toilet roll. There was nowhere to put things in the bathroom. There was also a noise from the bathroom about every 30 minutes during the night. Saturday morning, we went down to breakfast about 9am to find the breakfast room locked and no staff around. We went elsewhere. We checked out about 7.30am Sunday morning and didn’t bother with breakfast. We had asked about how to checkout and was told there would be a box on Reception to put our room keys in. It wasn’t there, so we left the keys on the desk. Overall the hotel was very clean, but very unwelcoming. They were prepared to take your money, but not provide a service. We won’t be staying there again.

the bathroom let us down, scolding water with no way to change the temperature, would not move. Decided to try the bath, plug got stuck as it seems to not be designed to even have a bath! had to pry it out! The stay was also to be a treat for my partner for his birthday, £11 for two banners and a milk tray box. i could’ve done better for that price! The staff were lovely and so was the rest of the trip, just greatly disappointed by this.

Staff are excellent! Very accommodating to our large party of 15 people to celebrate a 70th birthday party. We all had such a lovely time. Rooms were clean and tidy. Most of them were good however, my partners toilet didn't flush and the room was quite cold when we arrived. The breakfasts were lovely our evening meals weren't outstanding but they were ok. But the staff were brilliant and friendly in this delightful hotel.

Beautiful location and lovely clean room only criticism is the toilet is not enclosed in the room we stayed in so not very private when going to the toilet. ? Maybe partitioning it off so can have a little privacy. Breakfast was beautiful, service with a smile and whole hotel immaculately clean. Would highly recommend.

There are some positives about this hotel, the location is beautiful, the decor is traditional and in keeping, the bar area was cozy, the shower and bathroom in our room was good and the view from our room was also good. The staff were also friendly. However unfortunately there were three things that let the hotel down, the bed was uncomfortable and gave my partner a bad back and she did not sleep. This is after all the most important part of a hotel stay. You had to choose a breakfast time slot, but we went earlier around 7.30 and as no one had booked this slot no one was available or around to serve us. You should be able and have the flexibility to change your mind if you want to go earlier or later particularly after not sleeping for the majority of the night. Lastly, there was a lingering smell of curry throughout and in our room.

We spent our honeymoon at this beautiful old house. Its stunning. The surroundings are beautiful. The owner and his wife were amazing, very officiant, friendly nothing was too much trouble. The food was lovely, and the little bar was cozy yet modern. The view from the hotel was lovely and at night you could hear the river. We will definitely be going back. We'll worth the money we paid. Can't say highly enough how good it is.
