Explorers Retreat Hotel where should I begin? Arrived and found it impossible to locate, no signs, barrier down and pitch black. Checked in eventually after being greeted by a young lad with no clue. Instead of being shown to a room we were told 'go across the car park, down some steps and you will find it' located room which appeared to be from the dark ages. Two single beds pushed together to make a double, sit on the toilet knees touch the shower and the sink is above the toilet. Room was absolutely freezing we were told 'we don't keep the heating on unless rooms are in use' so clearly didnt check what rooms were booked. Waited 2 hours room still freezing got told extra blankets could be provided. Ended up having to pay extra to upgrade to a themed room. Breakfast is a disaster - no need to book a table but dont turn up unless you do. Over all the place is awful, dirty and damp. Needs closing down its seen better days.

Fantastic place to stay with the kids if your visits the theme park. We stayed ina themed room and the kids loved it. Food on site is decent. Staff were really friendly. Makes things a whole lot easier staying in site.

Stayed 1 night in the Willows room on an Eat, Sleep, Play package and had 2 days in the park. Pros *Accommodation was in a convenient location for the park. *No issues with parking near room. *Comfortable bed and room. *Enjoyed the park itself and liked it for what it was- quirky and quite retro in places. *Staff were consistently friendly. Cons *Room is already showing signs of wear, despite not being very old (shower area). I don't think the room has ever seen a duster in its life. This may seem unecessarily picky, but if it hasn't been dusted ever, what else isn't being cleaned? *Evening meal could have been better. Child's garlic bread was black in places. Photos of what the Eat, Sleep, Play package involved are attached, as I struggled to find this info when I was booking.

Cosy small rooms, kids liked the theme (pirate / princess / wizards). Comfortable stay. The rooms had a fridge, microwave and TV. Modern usb charging sockets. Bathrooms had a bit of mold on the silicone. But overall it was good. The staff were amazing. Couldn't do enough to help. On site restaurant with a decent menu for breakfast lunch and dinners all at very reasonable prices.

One stayed for a night due to local business. Interestingly decorated room. Clean and warm. Bigger in person than picture. Look like a great place for family.

Absolutely awful experience at this hotel. Stayed for one night last week and the state of the room was disgusting. Large brown stains on bed sheets, along with hairs. The duvet was stained, asked for replacements and was told there wasn’t any spare. Toilet was dirty and the shower curtain was mouldy. Made a complaint and was told an excuse for evert reason- such as new staff team, the hairs was from the house keeping team. Was told i could only get a 50% refund- after disputing i got offered a compensation package of £150 if i returned for another night. After our experience, there was no way we would stay again- asked for the money to refunded and was only told have £96 back. Absolutely appalled at the cleanliness , standards and feedback from managers.

Absolutely brilliant, we couldn't have stayed in a better place, after a busy day exploring Matlock Bath we went back to our quirky little room, changed and went for a meal in the mini clubhouse, what a fabulous evening we had, the entertainment was the best we've ever had, the kids were entertained all evening. Highly recommend a visit!

Stayed in the promenade accommodation for the night basically a shipping container the room had a verry horrible smell, double bed was two singles pushed together. The TV didn't work and when complained just gave us a did player.

Arrived here last night for a night away with my 9 year old Niece so we could visit the Matlock Christmas Market. Upon arriving we were greeted by the lovely staff on site who made us feel very welcome. We were amazed we had an amazing offer of a room upgrade as the site was not busy, my Niece was over the moon as we were upgraded to a Wizard room from a standard room. The room was immaculately clean and was absolutely amazing for our nights stay, we loved it that much were returning in August with friends to explore the park and village amusements. The heating in the rooms you can control yourself and was so warm during the cold night we stayed over. Thank you so much to all of the team at The Explorers Retriet.
