Came a Thursday and the special was steak frites! I did not try any cocktails but they seemed fantastic

The decorations and interiors at Pompette in Summertown are genuinely lovely, but the food and service were underwhelming and disappointing. We ordered the three course prix fixe and it just wasnβt good in taste or value. The dessert with baguette, 24-month ComtΓ© and caramelised apple came as cold sliced bread, which felt lazy. The bone-in ribeye for 2-3 had a huge amount of fat on it, especially for a dish with a Β£60 supplement. The purple sprouting broccoli with stracciatella tasted like it had come straight out of the fridge, not fresh at all. Service was also poor. We had to work hard to get anyoneβs attention throughout the meal, which really took away from the experience. Beautiful restaurant, but thatβs where the praise ends. Not worth it.

My partner and I celebrated our 3rd anniversary here. Felt so welcome and the service was great. Food was absolutely delicious!

βWe greatly enjoyed our meal at Pompette on a busy Saturday evening. Despite the bustle, service was responsive, efficient and friendly. Noise levels are manageable, tables not indecently closely spaced. The classic fish soup is obviously a staple and deservedly so; smooth but rich and substantial with the classic garnishes of rouille, cheese and croutons. A bowl of braised pigs trotters with snails was like a finely-chopped stew, not too liquid and deeply savoury. A slight pity that the main ingredients weren't visibly obvious but this was the only minor disappointment of the evening. Chalkstream trout seems to be a regular on the menu in varying presentations. This evening, a Riesling sauce, choucroute and steamed potatoes. Beautifully French, balanced just on the right side of decadence. Poison du jour was a handsome sautΓ©ed hake fillet on slow-cooked fennel and a faintly agridolce sauce. The contrasts worked beautifully. Though the dessert list was tempting we opted for the cheese, as a demanding test of any French restaurant. A classic trio of ComtΓ©, Saint-Nectaire and a creamy blue (Bleu d'Auvergne?) were perfect - right temperature, right maturity. A big plus is the very interesting selection of wines by the glass, including some fine wines through Coravin. Sadly we live some way from Oxford. If we were closer we would probably be regulars - the whole experience encourages a return.

A beautiful restaurant with beautiful, helpful and kind staff. The atmosphere of the restaurant is warm and soft. Music was subtle and elegant. Their menu for a Thursday night was delicious. Their menu is unique and tasty. Drinks were brilliant. Loved the atmosphere, and gentleness from the staff was spectacular, they werenβt in top of you but always there at the right time. Thank you for helping make a beautiful evening with my mom and I. I will be back with my Love for a romantic evening.

Very, very decent French cuisine. Highly recommend the spatzle (sorry no photos).

Pretty good! Had the set menu for lunch. Smoked trout and spud salad could only have been improved by having the spuds out of the fridge a bit sooner. Tough to do though I guess. All reasonable and very welcoming. Parking is available which is a boon.

Great food and service. Little travel to France in this restaurant.

Was alright. Bit pushy with the alcohol menu, and I definitely don't recommend coming in without a reservation, your orders will be coming later. Food was nice, I recommend the fish soup! It may not look much on the photos but the taste is seriously good. The menu is seasonal too, so there's changes from photos you find here. That said, the place is too pricey for me so I doubt I'll be visiting again.

Absolutely superb. Perfect cooking, a delicate, interesting and delicious combination of flavours. Good service in relaxed surroundings. Yes, it's pricey. And I pilloried another place on here for their Β£30 piece of fish. But there's cooking that's worth Β£30 and cooking that isn't. This is worth every penny, and although it's out of our range to be a regular haunt we absolutely would go back for a special occasion. Best restaurant in Oxford? It might well be.
