Consistently serving decent nosh and reasonable booze. More akin to local 'Spoons', but a reliable and respectable pub-restaurant. Manager Alex excels in ensuring everything is well each time we revisit.

I have been a few times and have always enjoyed the food. On Monday 29th September myself along with another 3 family members arrived at around 5.30pm without pre booking. It became busy with small to large groups. They appeared to be short staffed but I have to say to the 2 male staff members that attended to everyone where excellent. Really professional and very friendly. They were rushed off their feet and didn’t stop for a second but that didn’t affect their professionalism and service to every table.

My favourite place for soup ! Absolutely love it ! Staff members are always lovely and cheerful with kids, and the seating area outside is amazing when it’s a sunny day.

My husband and I dropped in here for a meal on Friday evening. I ordered salmon which was ok. It wasn't great, but not bad either. My husband ordered home made steak pie but this was very poor. He had a small splodge of congealed mashed potato and some mixed veg which was cold by the time it was served to him. He doesn't really eat veg anyway but I tasted the carrots and they were horrible, they had an odd taste and were not at all nice. The steak pie came in a small dish and looked nice from the top but underneath the pastry, there was a stew which only had about 3 or 4 small bits of steak in it but was bulked out by carrots and possibly turnip. It was more like a vegetable stew with a couple of bits of meat thrown in and was definitely not worth the money. He left still hungry so went to the local fish and chips shop where he had a delicious fish.

My wife and I had lunch here yesterday. Don’t think that we will be back. My wife had the butter chicken curry which she very much enjoyed. No problem there. I had the Cairnhill burger and fries. I assume that by highlighting Cairnhill that the burger was sourced from somewhere exceptional for its meat. Then you give it to the chef in Garvie & Co. The burger was black, burned and solid all around the outside. When I ate what I could from the middle of the burger, what remained of the burger resembled a black donut. I also paid £2 extra for bacon, two rashers. Which when I tried to put my fork into the bacon it shattered like glass. Surely a chef should be able to cook a burger and bacon without ruining it. To crown it all they tried to over charge us £4 extra per glass of wine.

Unorganised from the beginning of the visit. Few minutes wait for the booked table, nothing unreasonable but given the restaurant was half empty and staff looked disinterested. It took 15 minutes for one of the waiters to take our drinks order, another 15 for food order. One of the starters came with couple of hairs included at no extra cost, replacement was offered but at that point the appetite was nowhere near to be found. Mains were mostly ok, thankfully the hairy cheese person received a decent steak, but the other medium rare one ended up being a shoe sole. Hardly eaten, still managed to make an appearance on the bill. The only check we received from any of the staff was when most of the mains were already finished. Deserts were offered and delivered in a reasonable amount of time. Once the bill was produced, few drinks and toupee were taken off. No member of management was at the table at any given point. As someone with significant hospitality experience, if I was the one providing such service, I'd have a long long think about my future in the industry.

GOOD FOOD & GREAT STAFF! I've visited this place fairly regularly over the years and have never been disappointed. The place is spacious and well layed out. The food is plentiful and wholesome and for the quality, reasonably priced. All the staff I've encountered have been genuinely friendly and really helpful. I'll be back!

This was an all expence paid treat for a number of people so was never going to cost me. The cooking was great, I had an 8oz steak cooked blue. It was cooked to perfection, however let down by the stringyness of the meat. Presumably cut wrongly when raw. Dessert sorbet topped cheese cake with white chocolate. It was a good as it sounds. Service was good, friendly and attentive. The atmosphere, warm and welcoming. All in I had a positive experience here and would go again. Might not have the steak though which is a shame.

Good place to eat dinner before you set off for your WHW next day staff could have more understanding that people eating here will have accent because WHW attract walkers from around the world, sadly they don't try much to have an ear and sometimes it may be seen as rude attitude toward the customer, many people finding Scottish accent hard especially when spoken fast, to welcome gest properly I would like to see some effort from the staff to make us " foreigners :) " more welcome food was good and drinks and dessert too I felt comfortable enough to relax but felt that it is a bit dark in the dining area... would come bck for more thank you.

Popped in for a couple of drinks as it's the largest place in Milngavie and with only allowing table service it was the only place we could get a table. Service very slow, waited approx 10 mins before waitress took our drink order. Atmosphere was okay, nice and cosy but when visited the toilets was disappointed - very untidy, obviously not checked regularly or even repaired as toilet roll holder and soap dispenser broken. Really needs more attention paid.
