Coziest place in Edinburgh, that has naturally shaped itself and stands as a hidden gem with its own unique touch. One of the best selections of drinks, from small European wineries and breweries to nice whisky. Grateful that we have it here for locals. Funny to read some reviews, people so used to impersonal, hollow politeness from staff everywhere that when they meet someone with a bit of character, they feel offended. Great atmosphere, good wine - that's perfect for me.

If I could give this place zero stars I would. Absolutely horrible experience. Where do I even start? The place looks like a slum. Uncomfortable chairs, cracking paint, uneven floors. The Female bartender is rude, arrogant and should never be employed behind a bar. I'm one for giving people the benefit of the doubt, but going by previous reviews this is her standard demeanour. She was rude and grumpy like she didn't even want to serve. This bar needs to realise that they need to treat customers with respect. After all it's your customers who are providing your income. The male bar person, who I believe to be the owner was also obnoxious and this is no way to run a bar. If you want a rude pretentious drink, by all means try this place. If you want a nice drink, served by nice polite staff then do not cross the door. I thought I was in one of those Karen bars where the staff are deliberately rude, but no this is in fact their customer service. Do not go! Staff and owner please improve your attitude, absolutely shocking experience and no way to treat paying customers!

I actually appreciate seeing a few negative reviews , it means this place hasn’t turned into another tourist trap. The people who come here already love the calm, authentic vibe. They’re happy to grab a chair, sit down, and focus on good conversation without loud music, flashy decor, or crowds rushing around. If you prefer fancy venues full of trendy people, you can easily find those elsewhere , but you won’t find a spot as cozy and genuine as this one. I love sitting inside by the window, watching the street go by and enjoying a drink , beer or wine, doesn’t matter. Whenever I find myself in Edinburgh, this will always be the bar I return to.

A lovely quirky pub. Unusual interior, slightly falling apart but it adds to the character. Great selection of bottled beers & draught beers. Lovely staff & even nicer regulars!

Been there at freezing evening -10 in snowy storm. We 4 friends were the very first and only in empty bar. Standing on the counter to order our drinks but the girl behind the counter wasn’t interested to serve us. Anyhow after couple of minutes wait, we got our drinks even she served wrong drinks but we accept it because don’t wanna wait or make an issue. Lovely atmosphere though so we take out seats and start enjoying our drinks but the bar guy leave the main door open and we were sitting just in front of it. I requested him, can i close the door it’s freezing. He replied leave it wide open. So rude service i haven’t received in whole Edinburgh. Thats it we didn’t say anything and left without finishing our drinks. After left, i read all the negative reviews and thought why i never listen to them. So please read before you step in for saving your time and money.

Great we rustic bar with a great selection of low intervention wine and craft beers chosen for their quality and the passion of the producers . A rare gem of a bar with genuine service from lovely people

Wouldn't bother. Really poor service from staff. Empty place, but when we sat by the fire we were told we'd have to move if a larger group came in. Ordered a bottle of wine and had to wait 25 mins for it to come despite nobody else present but the bar staff's pal. Freezing as well as the poor girl couldn't light the fire

Quirky little bar with a nice beer selection and a great spirit and wine selection to keep everyone happy

Good selection of beers but quite expensive and very unfriendly staff. I came in with one other person on a Wednesday evening when the place was literally empty. We chose to sit next to the little open fire and just as we were about to sit down the barman said: "If it is just the two of you, can you sit at a smaller table?" I can't recall having ever been prevented from sitting somewhere in an empty bar before. It really soured the vibe.

Great music. Rustic but charming. Brilliantly eclectic whisky selection, great craft selection, looks like wonderful wine choices. Very atmospheric.
