We did not stay here, but had dinner one evening while travelling through the area. The Inn is welcoming with good food. Lots of locals enjoying dinner with their families. Would love to visit again some day.
As a family, we have eaten here many times over the years. We keep coming back as it's traditional and food has always been excellent and the staff work hard to meet your needs. Never had to wait for food and the menu is extensive and also specials to choose from. The price is good value plus a good range of ales and lagers. We will continue to return.
The food was really disappointing. I ordered the cod, and while it looked fine at first glance, it was dried out around the edges and lacked any real flavour. The new potatoes were clearly over-microwaved — rubbery, tough, and far from fresh. The only decent part of the meal was the salad, which at least tasted crisp and fresh, though it’s hard to get that wrong. The person I was with had the mushroom stroganoff, and that was equally underwhelming. There were hardly any mushrooms, and the sauce tasted artificial, like something poured straight from a packet rather than made in the kitchen. It was bland, watery, and lacked the rich, creamy flavour you’d expect from a proper stroganoff. It’s such a shame, because this used to be a place you could rely on for genuinely good food. I’ve eaten here before and it was excellent — fresh, well-cooked, and full of flavour. But this time, it felt like they’ve really lost their way. The quality and care that once set them apart just isn’t there anymore. The pub itself looked just as tired as the food. It’s grubby, dirty, and worn out — the kind of place that feels like it hasn’t had a proper clean or update in years. It used to have a bit of charm, but now it just feels neglected, with the same lack of care that showed up on the plates.
Popped in for food as we were on a stop over from Cornwall. Food was tremendous and reasonably priced too. Had the Lamb shank and it was a huge portion. Partner had the Blackened cajun chicken and hers was lovely too. In a great location and the staff were great too. Fantastic!
We stayed with our 2 dogs on new years eve and were completely happy with our stay. It may not be 5 star accommodation, nevertheless it was clean, adjacent to, but just separate from the pub, good value for money and the owners and staff were friendly and genuine.
Lovely big rooms suitable for a base with small children and a dog like us when visiting family in Bristol. Breakfast was good. Parking was easy. Tea and coffee facilities along side the aid of the pub for food and drink. Not sure it's fully sound proof as we could hear next door trying to put their plug in the wall and their TV. Didnt bother us though. Light bulbs needed replacing as few put and could of done with better lighting near our bed. Otherwise would stay again.
First time i had been to the dog inn and had a sunday roast and i wont be rushing back. Beef was very chewy and some of the roast potatoes werent even cooked properly. I let me daughter finish my pudding for one of the staff members to take it away whilst she was still eating it.
Went in for a Sunday roast. Very disappointing. After todays experience, I'm genuinely confused by other reviews for this pub, are all definitely talking about The Dog Inn? Lackluster service followed by rather awful food. Perhaps the normal menu is better, but I wouldn't recommend going there for a roast to anyone.
