The Royal Mile is an amazing place to visit in Scotland. Full of history, beautiful old buildings, and a great atmosphere. There are many shops, cafés, and historic attractions along the way. It’s a perfect place for walking, taking photos, and learning about Scottish culture. A must-visit place when you are in Edinburgh.

To call this a tourist attraction I thought was a bit of a misnomer, but it truly is. The main street between Holyrood and Edinburgh castle is lines with pubs, buskers, souvenir shops, and a bustle of a lot of different languages and accents. Thmost interesting thing are the closes - small little alleyways that can lead to other streets, small courtyards, or a path to a less touristy store or small museum.
Walking along Edinburgh's Royal Mile was an unforgettable experience! I began right at the top, at the Castle Esplanade - where you can enjoy some good views of the city - and walked almost to the end at the entrance to Holyroodhouse. It was downhill all the way, along cobblestones that have been smoothed over, and with a wealth of fascinating history all around. There are ancient multi-storey tenements, narrow closes and hidden courtyards, historic pubs, and kirks with tall spires. St Giles Cathedral in Parliament Square is well worth a visit, and other attractions include the Camera Obscura, John Knox House, and Museum of Edinburgh. But the Royal Mile is not merely an open-air history museum. It's a bustling street with a vibrant atmosphere, enhanced by street entertainment: I encountered Scottish pipers in full regalia, buskers and a stilt walker as I strolled along. Walking tours start from here. There are plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from, and lots of shops where you can buy Scottish gifts, clothing, confectionery and whisky. Of course this street can get crowded with tourists - it was uncomfortably crowded in the pedestrianised area close to the castle - but that's only to be expected, and it became less hectic but just as interesting the further down I walked. All in all, the Royal Mile was an experience I definitely wouldn't have missed!
Great place to visit. Loads of shops bars and restaurants. The fringe festival is held here every August. That's great to see. You can get a hop on hop off bus for £10 and do a tour of the city. It takes you right up to the castle. Great place to visit. Wavely Station is where you get of on the train right in centre of Princess street.
Fascinating artitecht and quite amazing old city vibe. This is must visit place if you are on tour to Edinburgh, generally very crowded but really good place to have a real feel of the city. Quite a few great picture spots here and good street side food on offering. Can easily spent few hours here roaming around.
Incredible part of the old city. Edinburgh castle itself would take almost the whole day to visit. The Scottish whiskey experience is not to be missed. The tartan weaving mill is excellent and loved the bagpipes being played on the road. I would love to visit again.
Absolutely magical and stunning street. The buildings really make you go back in time and all the different pubs and shops give a very nice atmosphere to the area. It's also a splendid walk to get to the castle. One of the top things to do in Edinburgh
Being Scottish I suppose we don’t appreciate how lucky we are that we can visit one of the worlds best streets within an hour or two of leaving our homes, from the gates of the Castle the thoroughfare stretches for 1 old Scottish mile to the palace of Holyrood which is the Queens official residence when in Edinburgh passing wonderful old buildings and closes full of history , bars , cafes and restaurants of all types crowd the street as well as lots of small unique shops that sell all types of stuff a visitor might want. A very enjoyable couple of hours can be had wandering down the Royal Mile.
