It was very busy today with lots of people having lunch, but the service was very good & the staff friendly. We ordered from the lunch menu which has smaller portions (which leaves room for dessert) & the food was tasty. It was quiet when we left & we had a lovely chat with the young barman. We will definitely return.

Great staff and not bad food. Had the steak and ale pie and mash definitely a decent portion. However the accommodation is awful, not very clean and the room needs updating (room3). The window in the bathroom doesn’t close so you hear the traffic all night long. The WiFi is very hit and miss.

A really nice pub with a traditional feel to it. Food reasonably priced and very nice for the money. Staff are friendly and efficient, particularly chef who is also a first aider and was very good with a medical emergency that we had during the visit. All in all, well worth a visit.

Lovely drinking spot on the edge of the village. Next to the main road turning. Quality served peroni I had . And garlic butter prawns. Very tasty. A good bit of banta with the staff including the chef. I was even allowed to charge my dead phone. As I was meant to be down in the village at a wedding venue. And kneeded to let them know I was running late due to train delays. But they have a good sized carpark out back as well. Thanks guys.

Family birthday lunch pit today for 11 of us from 3yrs old to 75yrs old, 1 vegetarian and two children's meals oh and we brought my sisters dog too! Two large tables in the small first bar area which were great for us allowing the children to have a bit of space. Comprehensive menu with something for everyone. Food ordered and arrived in good time, well presented and good value for money. Both myself and my adult son had the salmon fishcakes which were delicious, it came with a salad which was over dressed and with peppers which I don't like - I never think they should be included in a side salad, stick to lettuce, tomatoes and cucumber! But that's on me not them. The children had desserts which came quickly and looked nice. Plenty of people coming and going. Lots of room in the car park and a good disabled spot. We've eaten and drank here many times over the last twenty years and this was definitely a good meal - unfortunately we haven't always been as lucky for many reasons. We would however recommend it as it's staff are normally pleasant and helpful, food range good, it's easy to find and park, good range of beer and wine oh and they do a doggie menu for your furry companions! In the summer the garden is a real draw especially if you have children!

Usually pretty good however on tonight's visit the food was all cold. My pregnant wife's food was sent back twice to be reheated and still wasn't delivered hot despite them making a fresh meal on the third attempt. All 6 of our meals plus puddings were cold on the outside and luke warm in the middle like they had been left out in a cold place waiting for service despite the pub not being particularly busy. It would of been a one star review if we hadn't had good food and service in here before.

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights last week. We would have given higher rating if there was better service, food and accommodation. The room has a fantastic king size bed and very very comfortable. The room had one curtain drawn all the time because the window was ill fitting. I could not pull it back because the wind was blowing through the window and it was very cold. There was another window in the same room that had a gap but fortunately the wind was not blowing on to the window. There was No toilet brush in the bathroom. Food service was slow and one occasion the salmon fish cakes were over cooked.Did not complain because my food would have gone cold waiting for a replacement for my wife. The Dessert order was forgotten to be ordered only to find out some 15 minutes later that they had run out after we had complained on its whereablouts..On the second day, the evening meal service served much quicker and certainly better. However the breakfast was only warm on day one including the tea and coffee. Second morning was a lot better. But on the second day the restaurant had no heating on and it was very chilly and that was at 8.30am in the morning. So no hanging around there. Would we stay again. Sorry No. Many improvements needed. To the owner - please read revised feedback giving more detail. Really need to do something about the windows in Room 5 especially with the colder night coming.

Great gin and tonics, friendly and helpful bar staff. One of our servers was lovely and helpful, the other made us feel as if we were unwelcome. Food good overall. I shouldn't have been disappointed by the not quite real avocados but it should be noted that they come from a tub.

Fascinating 16th century building, a little out in the sticks if you're coming of the M5, meals served in two sittings lunch and dinner about 2hrs between. Meals good, service good, fair range of drinks reasonable prices about £20 per head including 2 rounds of drinks (5 covers) Overall nice if you're into buildings with a history and atmosphere. Recommended.
