Against our better judgment (and a recommendation), we subjected ourselves to a weekend at The French Horn. The dinner? Oh, it was a masterclass in mediocrity, with food so 'vintage' it practically had cobwebs. Our room was, shockingly, quite nice. But then, to truly cap off the experience, breakfast arrived on a tray so filthy, it looked like it had survived a food fight. Bon appétit

Absolutely phenomenal! We discovered the hotel by accident when we needed a room at last minute, only then did we discover it has a Michelin star restaurant. Our first surprise was the fact that the included breakfast is room service by default. This alongside how lovely the rooms are really made the stay unforgettable. We came back 2 months later for my partner's birthday meal and we're blown away, the food was fantastic, and the service could not be better! We will be returning in the future, and have nothing but positive things to say about the experience!

Came here with my mum and brother before they fly back home. The ambience with historic setting and the view was amazing. The service from all the staff was remarkable. The quality of food was above average in UK dining standard. We had a wonderful dining experience.

On the way to Sonning on a very rainy evening, we found this little gem to stop by for dinner. Very classic and excellent service. Michael and his team was very attentive. Fantastic menu and wine list, beautiful view by the river and just a generally lovely experience.

Good location and service but poor options for vegetarians. With practically every good restaurant able to cater vegetarians, it’s disappointing

Food was great. Service was poor. Cost; unjustified. Won't be revisiting. Visited 28th Jan. Two couples. Our waiter wasn't 'rude' exactly but snooty and unfriendly. He didn't ask if we wanted drinks, even once throughout the meal, and nor did anyone else. There wasn't the usual "is everything ok" interjection, which I would have welcomed as my steak was significantly under cooked. I asked for a cognac at the end and the waiter asked if I wanted it with desert or after. I said 'with'. It came about 15 minutes after I'd finished my desert, with no apology (or even a smile). We weren't offered any drinks at the end of the meal, or even approached once ... in the end we were the last table, but one, and had to get up and walk to the reception to ask for our bill. Not impressed. FOOD: Starter: Foie gras which I wouldn't usually order however it was the only item I found appetising on the starter menu. My wife and I agreed that Aldi pate we'd previously bought was better. Main: Chateaubriand. Lovely piece of meat but under cooked (we asked for med-rare). Our partner couple ordered the the same but 'medium' and there was an overly significant difference. Sides: string beans - ordinary, nothing special. Potato dauphinois, lovely. Desert: bread and batter pudding. Lovely. Our partner couple who've visited there several times over the years said he'd noticed that standards have slipped in the last few occasions he's been there but they're seemingly holding onto business by their reputation. Overall we weren't happy with the delays, the waiter (especially) and the general service, based on the prices they charge, and won't be revisiting.

Lovely place, lovely food, lovely service. The only downside is people keep mistaking me for George Clooney when my wife and I are craving some time together. Other than that, perfect.

Great restaurant. Service the old fashioned way which in my humble opinion is seriously lacking nowadays. Beautiful location, Elaine and the team super attentive, food impeccable. 6 stars if that were allowed.

I have been dining and staying here from time to time for the past couple of decades, and the standards are, and have always been, supreme. On this visit I was meeting old friends for lunch, and I was second to arrive. It was a lovely day and our table was outside. I was quickly served a lovely pint of dark beer and my friends shortly arrived. A bit of business chat later, we were enjoying the splendid views of the Thames beside us along with each others company - such a relaxing setting. We ordered our meals and these were wonderful as usual. As a special treat, 2 of us shared the chateaubriand. Our plates were so full of meat that we hardly had the space for vegetables! After desserts and Petit fours an after-dinner libation saw us happily on our way. I have stayed here before, both in the comfortable rooms within the building and in the cottages across the road. There is ample parking across the road and although it can be a busy road, it moves slowly and motorists are usually helpful in letting you cross.
