Had a Christmas lunch at The Ely with a friend, it was worth the hours drive, a very easy drive to an amazing looking pub/hotel, good carparking, EV charging points, greeted with a smile, and shown our table, a few minutes to settle into our seats, then asked if we would like to order drinks which we did , they arrived very quickly, they gave us time to look through the menu, then we ordered the Turkey which arrived shortly and was excellent, it was followed by the Christmas pudding of course, that was ordered when they cleared the table from the main dish. Cannot praise the food and service enough absolutely fabulous, well worth the 2 hour round trip there and back, well-done Madison for making our visit very special. Yes we will be back

XMAS Work lunch 23 people on 18 Dec 25. All pre ordered on separate emails as directed by the Restaurant, yet they had no knowledge of who ordered what, then some of those choices were not available anyway. The food was poor, cold and came out so slowly some people of each table had finished before others even got their various courses. Christmas pudding was but so thin there was very little taste and the brandy sauce, if that is what it was was awful. A group booking yet and they had plenty of space but we were scattered over 6 tables. Service was terrible and staff very unpleasant and miserable. Everything seemed to much hassle for them. Chef came out and looked miserable and basically fed up with basic requests. We were not a difficult party and as all pre booked should have been a breeze! Overall a poor experience and i will not be going back to this restaurant, which is also had to get to. Its out of town not on a bus route and no footpaths by edge of road for miles. If you have this booked for an XMAS meal I would start to look elsewhere.

Thursday evening last week thirteen of us from Elliott Baxter & Co attended for our Office Christmas Meal and were not disappointed. Greeted by our host for the evening Romeo, we were led to an L shaped table setting which was ideal for the size of our group which meant full inclusion for all, rather than one very long table or two separate tables. The three courses were served by the staff swiftly, so we all ate at the same time, and enough time was allowed between courses, so we did not feel rushed. The food itself was delicious and from the feedback I have received from my colleagues they also felt the food was praiseworthy. Well done to all at the Ely for a very enjoyable evening, thank you

Very nicely decorated and welcoming atmosphere. Had our work Christmas meal here and the food was lovely! The staff were very attentive, we had Amanda as our waitress. She was very friendly, professional and full of energy. Would recommend and love to go back

Had a lovely Sunday roast. Service was excellent. Food was lovely and plenty of it. Nice country pub atmosphere. Also, the nice lady who served us, Amanda, pointed out we could use our Tesco Clubcard vouchers which saved us £60 for our table. Result!

We stopped in for Sunday lunch. No tables in the restaurant, but we were welcomed to sit in the bar area. Roast beef dinner was spot on, tender and perfectly cooked. Friendly staff, comfortable atmosphere and good value for money

Excellent dinner last night in newly refurbished restaurant. Lovely atmosphere, great choice on menu, excellent food, first class service by Elena. She was attentive but not intrusive and really appeared to be enjoying our enjoyment of the evening. We have been before - always excellent.

Enjoyed an evening meal at this refurbished pub/restaurant. We hadn't booked but a nicely positioned table was found for us in the restaurant by Romeo despite the restaurant being fully booked. Romeo was very attentive, with a great sense of humour which kept us entertained. The food was good and we were made very welcome. We look forward to visiting again.

We stayed at the Ely from Christmas day to New Year's eve and we could not have wished for a nicer place to celebrate over the festive period. The Ely has recently had an amazing refurb, both in the restaurant/bar and in the hotel rooms. Glyn on reception could not have been more helpful from booking in my family x 3 rooms, to advising us on numerous helpful issues throughout our stay. Gabriella the Housekeeper was just as wonderful in ensuring our rooms were topped with teas, coffees, amazing chocolates as well as always having a smile on her face. The minute you walk into The Ely you are greeted by friendly staff. The Christmas dinner was fab. It's the first time we have eaten out on Christmas day and I would thoroughly recommend doing so here. The decor was beautiful and very festive, the seating comfortable and the breakfast menu was quite vast. The hotel rooms decorated beautifully. The beds were comfortable and the black out curtains were brilliant for much needed lay ins! The location was excellent and close to all local amenities. Great place, great stay.

Not a good experience! If you love dogs this is an amazing place to come and the reason I am giving 2 ⭐️ We were waiting for 1 hour and a half for 3 burgers that never arrived. The customers next to us ordered much after and had their food quicker. They even said that they were feeling bad for us! It was almost 3:00 pm when we left with no food! Definitely, a place to avoid!
