Such a lovely hotel set in beautiful gardens and within easy reach of all that the Peak District has to offer. Our room was very spacious and extremely well appointed. The staff were super friendly and helpful. We booked bed and breakfast but also ate in the hotel restaurant. Breakfast was fine and dinner was very good indeed. The building itself is very impressive. I really couldn't fault the Makeney Hall Hotel and would definitely recommend a stay to anyone.

It was ok. Rooms are not bad but there is no desk or surface to work off, should you be there on business. You can also hear the next rooms television and conversation. Best thing is the shower. Water pressure is brilliant and water temp is easily manageable. Breakfast was pretty ordinary and the restaurant for dinner was average at best. Service was great and staff friendly.

This review is in no way related to the staff. It is for the owners. This place is dirty run down and VERY dated. Damp cold rooms, we needed 2 quilts on the bed! Scuffy worn mismatched carpets throughout with scuffed paint and wallpaper. Breakfast was 2 star quality at best. This hotel is still trading on previous standards obviously and needs a fortune spending on it. Again, I must stress the staff are excellent and working with what they have. We cancelled our second night there. Fair play the staff refunded it and cancelled the £25 dog charge for our little chiuhahua. Bathroom was mouldy and grubby. Owners need to go somewhere like Crewe Hall to see what genuine 4 star hotel and breakfast is like.

Magnificent. Room size ideal and with Dog well catered for. Only small issue was with Dog, and its understandable we could not eat in a normal dining room with the Dog, the room we could eat in had a really low table lounge table which made it difficult to eat which is why we did not book breakfast as we could not leave the dog alone in room. This did not detract from anything but should be made clear that you cannot eat normally with a dog.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Delightful Stay at Makeney Hall Hotel I recently enjoyed a two-day stay at Makeney Hall Hotel and was thoroughly impressed by its charm and character. The historic building and beautifully maintained grounds create an atmosphere of timeless elegance and tranquility. From the moment I arrived, the staff were warm, courteous, and attentive, ensuring that every detail of my stay was comfortable and pleasant. My room was spacious, tastefully furnished, and exceptionally clean, offering a wonderful sense of calm and comfort. The dining experience was equally impressive, with delicious food and excellent service throughout. The only minor inconvenience was the absence of a mini-fridge in the room, which would have added an extra touch of convenience. Nevertheless, this did not detract from an otherwise superb experience. I would wholeheartedly recommend Makeney Hall Hotel to anyone seeking a peaceful retreat in a refined and welcoming setting, and I look forward to returning in the near future.

What a lovely, lovely place this is. From the minute we walked in and were greeted by the super friendly front of house staff who went out of their way to provide a perfect space for me to do some work, to the bar and servers at dinner and the lovely crew at breakfast, everything was truly great. Food was very good, we had lunch, dinner and breakfast and all were delicious. The rooms were spacious, ours was enormous with a separate sitting room and lovely roll top bath - the only issue being that showering was really messy as no shower curtain was provided. We will definitely return as soon as possible.

A very enjoyable two night stay for a Valentine's treat. The hotel is in a very nice location, backing onto fields. We had a large bedroom which was very comfortable and clean. The public areas are very well decorated and comfortable. Evening meal was fabulous, three courses of very tasty food, well prepared and presented. Breakfast was very good. There is a good choice of cold options as well as a full cooked breakfast. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The hotel is well located to explore the UNESCO World Heritage site of Derwent Valley, which is full of relics from the Industrial revolution. Derby is 20 minutes drive away. There are also pubs and restaurants within walking distance. We had a lovely stay, definitely recommended.

This was our second visit to this hotel and once again, we had a lovely stay. Our room was very warm despite the bitter cold weather and very cosy. We enjoyed the evening dinner and really enjoyed breakfast the following morning. There was a great deal of choice and the food was obviously freshly prepared. All the staff we spoke to were pleasant and friendly. Our two dogs were made very welcome which is important to us. Hopefully we will return in the not too distant future.
