Stayed here last weekend in a family room. 2 adults 2 children. Had booked another hotel up the road that turned out to be a nightmare. Arrived at the hotel, plenty of room to park, yes it is on street but lots of space. Door was closed when we arrived didn't find this a problem, lady who was working reception answered really quickly and welcomed us in. Check in was smooth and easy. The receptionist was amazing, made us feel at home. (Wish I knew her name but she has red hair) hotel felt really secure, door closed most of the time to stop just anyone walking in off the street. The stair way upto room was very clean, there is a patch of damage to the decor on the way up but really not a problem and probably to be expected in a building of such age. Landing corridor to room all really beautiful with some lots of character, (chandelier, balcony) room was really nice, so clean so big for a family of 4. No issue in room with any facilities or cleanliness. Staff happy to help and really couldn't be nicer. Location is brilliant too, nice restaurant across the road, local shops near by and water park and money forest just a few mins away. Overall had a really nice time staying here and would definitely stay again. Thank you

This place is pretty much derelict apart from maybe 5 rooms at the far end of the building. There are around 40 rooms in total but its a halfway house which is fair enough but they really shouldn't be trading as a hotel. I feel sorry for the staff who try their best and are very polite but it really isn't a great place to stay. Also, they advertise with parking but access to the car park is no longer available so if you're a tradesmen you run the risk parking on the street.

Arrived to find the front door closed and locked. Had to wait for the one member of staff to eventually unlock it and let me in. Overall rundown and tatty but it must have looked amazing in its heyday. Could do with a major renovation. Room was pretty dingy. Bathroom flooring was curling up at the edges. Yellowing wallpaper. Internal condensation. Luke warm shower. At least the bed linen was clean and was reasonably comfy. Kettle in room didn’t work. I’ve paid less to stay in better. Definitely wouldn’t recommend.

George hotel was a complete disaster. There was a lack of cleanliness, the pillows were yellow and it very old and not properly maintained. There was an unsettling emptiness as we were the only ones staying at the hotel even though they said they were fully booked. There was a lack of basic amenities like hand wash and soap. I strongly recommend avoiding this hotel at all costs.

We paid £60 a night (Friday/Saturday) at the end of July. A lovely lady (Brittany?) booked us in a few months ago and saved our receipt. When we got there a nice lady {Trina) booked us in officially, it was her 1st day alone after just starting. She couldn't have been nicer, told us where our room was and a few rules then we went to our room, having seen the reviews we were a bit wary but the room was lovely, basic , but really nice. It was clean, plenty of towels, nice big bathroom, hot water. Everything we needed. There was a TV but we never watched it so I can't comment on it. Observation. There was no telephone in the room, which we found unusual, but we have a mobile each so didn't need it. From what we saw of the hotel a lick if paint wouldn't go a miss and new carpets, as it looks a bit "tired" but you can see what a beauty it was and hopefully could be again. The main door is shut early on in the evening and you just ring the bell and someone comes. I think we met 3 reception ladies and the gentleman who works the evening. ALL were pleasant and friendly.

The Room didn't have a curtain in one of the windows. I work nights shifts when got to the room at 6 in morning the night shift manager said he could find a curtains to put in the window that I did request when I checked in to the hotel.

Terrible! Had 2 hours sleep max! Called reception 4 times about noisy rooms next to us and down the hall from 11pm and they were still talking loudly and shouting/playing music at 5am. Amazes me how ignorant and selfish some people are these days….even drunk I’d consider those in rooms around me!! Ripped carpets all the way up the stairs, damp wallpaper hanging off everywhere. Bed was comfy I will say that. Won’t be going back!

An absolutely horrendous stay at The George Hotel. Upon arrival we were shown to our room where we walked into an unclean room with a half eaten bag of crisps and coke can on the bedside tabel which did not belong to us. The staff member laughed about this and then removed it from the room. Not a great start! After this, we asked for some quilts and pillows for the bed as all we had was a matress topper and a small pillow which belonged on a sofa. We were told by a staff member that they had ran out so had nothing to give us - this left us using our coats as quilts for the night. The room and hotel looked like it had never seen any cleaning supplies for as long as its been open not to mention the huge stains on the curtains. There was not a single plug in our room therefore we could not charge our phones, use hair dryers ect which was not ideal either. Overall terrible stay, i would never recommend this to even my worst enemy! If anyone takes any advice from here please DO NOT book!!
