“Like the Black Horse, this is a pub that's more of a food place than a pub, but there's a proper bar area if you're just in there for drinks. Food is good and they often have deals on. They often have entertainment on, although this is usually just a solo singer with backing tracks. The pub quiz is once a month on the first Monday of the month (although is moving to twice a month in 2026); it's a good quiz with 8 rounds of questions on a variation of subjects. Overall a decent place for the locals of Pilgrims Hatch!”

The steaks were perfectly cooked, with mine being rare/blue, and my husbands medium rare, they were bursting with flavour, and undoubtedly the best we’ve ever had anywhere. Compliments to the chef and the fantastic team for delivering such a high-quality dining experience. If you’re looking for a place to enjoy an impeccable steak dinner,then you must visit The Thatchers Arms on a Wednesday for steak night. Thank you again to the fantastic team.”

“Such a fun place - hidden round the back streets of the High Road. I didn’t know it existed until a friend took me there. Lovely bar staff and great DJ playing great tunes. Can’t wait to go back!!”

“Great pub at the traffic lights top of Shenfield and Brentwood Road. Refurbished a few years ago,more open plan and airy. Three hand pulled ales, Greene King IPA, Theakstons Best Bitter and Timothy Taylors Landlord. Contemporary selection of lagers and excellent range of spirits. Very dog friendly,super barmaid gave my dog treats and made sure she had water. Reasonably priced and good choices of food menu with standard dishes and nice range on smaller dishes such as sandwiches etc. Served until 8pm Mon-Sat, 5pm Sun. Didn't eat this time, but will on future visits. Three screens showing 2 Carabao Cup matches on my evening visit.”

“amazing food. pricey but there’s a reason for it, the food is good quality and good portion sizes. stunning fish finger sandwich. as a vegetarian i felt like there were plenty of options. service was great when i went. it can definitely get busy/loud in here but at the end of the day it’s bringing them business which is good to see! i also came here for a party a few weeks ago and the servers were incredible. amazing venue”

“Great evening with our group of 9 people. The staff accommodated us our request, and did not rush us to finish and leave, even though it was 11pm. We had a Lamb Bhuna but asked them to add Shatkora, which they did. Also made pani puri starter for us, but that was pre booked last week.”

“Excellent food - really fresh taste and seems that it is cooked to order. The Hydrabadi Lamb was superb with a lovely taste of fresh green chilies. Menu offers traditional Indian favourite, but also a good choice of more unique dishes not seen elsewhere. Staff are friendly, welcoming, knowledgeable and efficient. Recommended!”

“Fantastic place to work remotely with great service. Me and my wife often come to The Dairyman in Brentwood to work remotely while our son is at school, and its become one of our favourite spots. The service is always good, and the staff are consistently warm, welcoming and attentive, especially Giselle - even when we are here for long stretches of time. Its a comfortable and friendly environment with reasonable food and great drinks ad always feel looked after. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a place to work or unwind.”

“I’ve been coming to the restaurant since it opened about 2017, the food is always good, service good too. I can never quite figure out why the place is not more popular as it’s a very good mean at a good price considering the town and the food offer available here. They have a strong range of gluten free dishes and while it’s probably. It quite busy enough for the owners, it’s good in the sense that patrons get good service, good food and it’s not too noisy.”

“Robert and Sarah were very responsive, friendly and reliable. Delivery of a heavy good quality bbq / wood burner was made to a third floor flat involving 4 staircases without any issue. I understand Robert is focused more on garden design on a larger scale than the task he performed for me but he remained helpful throughout.”
