Uk dining experience in Sutton

“[SHORT VERSION] One of the best Japanese food we’ve had in London. Prices were MORE than reasonable and the portions are big. You should eat here. [LONG VERSION] The Food: We first had the Yuzu Yellowtail Tiradito. The first mouthful me and my partner had, we looked at each other and said, this sort of flavours could be easily served in fine dining restaurants. Very complex sweet, sour, and a small beautiful hint of spiciness to it and then the yellowtail tasted so fresh. Not one bit of slimy/fishy smell or flavour to it. We then had the mixed tempura. There was no usual dipping sauce and we thought it was a bit sad, but when we had our first bite, it was so crunchy and tasty that too much sauce would ruin it. You could really taste the freshness of the prawn. My partner and I think that proper japanese chefs pay attention to detail, so we check how they prepare their food, and they delivered. The tails of the prawns were completely clean with no black marks at all and the vegetables were so fresh too. We also had the pork katsu curry, which had the entire bowl covered with the pork cutlet and a really powerful japanese curry sauce(very flavourful)[no photo as someone took a better one that does justice to it]. The Chef and the Place: To be honest, I found out about this restaurant passing by it early morning(it was closed) on our to the bus stop, and I checked the reviews(high). I thought we would drop by later that night. They said that they don’t do reservations as it is really a small place(mainly takeaways), with bar like setting(stools lined up along the window and along where the chef prepares sushi) and 1 small table on the side. We went in later for dinner and were surprised that there wasn’t a single Japanese staff in the place, I even looked outside to check if we were in the right place. So we’re like, ok let’s just order, we’re here already and as soon as we tasted the food, we loved it. We talked to this Sri Lankan chef and asked how the hell his food tasted this good and we all had a good laugh. He’s been in the Japanese Fine dining field for 25 years and he wanted to start his own little restaurant serving cheap but high quality food. We spent 2 hours talking about Japanese food, and how they store, prepare, and present their food. They even showed us that they use only the highest quality ingredients all the way down to the salt they use for the sushi. These guys are lovely human beings and they are also highly skilled in what they do and they need the recognition. Thank you for the lovely meal. It was a pleasure meeting you guys. P.S. “We haven’t even left yet and I’m writing this review. We arrived as a family of four with one of our daughters being 2 month old, they were so attentive and gave us a good space for our pram and a good place to dine. The food was absolutely amazing, I couldn’t get enough of the seafood linguine, the waiter even put extra cream in my sauce as requested. My wife and eldest daughter both had pizzas and they were so light and fresh, with both of them devouring them within minutes! We live far away so will struggle to return as soon as we’d like, but we WILL be back!”

“Best bar in Sutton! Good selection of beer and a selection of craft beers in the fridge. The roast on a Sunday is definitely a winner with really good portion sizes at a great price. Aaron and the team are fantastic with lots of great recommendations for craft beers and always give amazing service. There is a space available to rent for free for hosting larger groups upstairs and a small selection of board games available to play. The pub is dog friendly and has a doggo station with water and treats!”

“Can’t get enough of this place: The perfect combination of great food, amazing service, and the perfect location. The food is far superior than your average pub; one could even say it’s gourmet. I suggest you try the steaks and a variety of their appetizers and wash them down with carefully crafted beverages. “Excellent service from Maria (my previous review has gone so apologies if her name is not Maria) she was attentive without being over burdening, we had many tasty cocktails and shooters. We had visited as an off the cuff birthday, mainly for the cocktails tbh. The food was nice, the drinks great, the atmosphere amazing, the service excellent. Even when the birthday cake came out, which I hadn't expected. As an impromptu evening it was great and I look forward to returning with a larger group.”

The food was absolutely delicious, and the tiger prawns and Philly cheesesteak sandwich stood out as highlights. “Searched from Google map then first time try the Chinese restaurant in London, turn out we are so lucky. The food is authentic with great taste, the service team is nice and warm welcoming, the overall environment is bright, clean and cozy. “I've been to this pub a few times at the weekend for the food and also for the entertainment. On Fridays, i have visited with friends, and there has been a karaoke. The guy doing it is great and gets everyone involved. My friends and I have also been on a Saturday and have enjoyed the food and often stay for the disco after. The DJ is great and always tries to fit in song requests. The atmosphere has always been good and the staff are very friendly, it is also great that the pub is dog friendly and the staff are more than happy to get a bowl of water for you when needed which is great.”

“What a wonderful pub. It was fairly quiet when we were there but had a great chat with both the Guvnor and her daughter who have been running this pub for quite some time. The is quite a bit of space to move around in with a bar running parallel to the front of the building. There is outside seating down the side of the pub, but don't forget to say hello to their resident cockatoo as you go out. The Guinness was excellent as was the Courage Best Bitter.”

“This is by far the nicest Chinese I have ever eaten. We went for the buffet. The lady that served us also cooked some of the dishes and was so helpful in showing me everything that was gluten free on the menu. I was blown away with the amount of options I could choose from and she even cooked my dishes using gluten free soya sauce. I have never been so comfortable eating at a Chinese restaurant. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. We will be back very soon.”

There are vegetarian and vegan options. The plantain and patties are tasty and you must try a tradition Trini double which is two fried bread with curried chickpeas in the middle. YUM.”
