“We spent a Friday evening here starting with axe throwing before going onto pool and then shuffle board. All of the staff were really friendly but one person in particular stood out - James. He is exceptional and helped ensure we had a really good time. He brings a lot of energy to the role and nothing was too much trouble. I think James in particular deserves some company recognition as he's an asset to the team. Great night and I highly recommend.”

“Our family booked The Hammer In Hand for a wake yesterday. Staff were so friendly, nothing was too much trouble for them. Prices were extremely reasonable and the food served was fresh with a great variety of rolls. The whole day was made so much easier with the great service we received from everyone there. Thank you. “Was recommended to come here for dinner, and I’m so glad I did. From start to finish, was such an experience. Met with a professional team, that care about their work, clearly trained to a high standard. Food allergies and care were taken very seriously, on top of there being many options should you have allergies. Amazing food to top it off. Highly recommend to you all. We traveled 45minutes and will definitely make that travel again.”

“I really enjoyed everything about this place. They have different style rooms depending on where you prefer to eat. I ordered the goats cheese and beetroot as the starter which was fantastic. I got the side of the tomato beef ragu pasta which was amazing but exactly the right size for my small appetite that day - they also brought a whole bowl of Parmesan for me to help myself. For dessert I ordered the brownie and doughballs with Nutella which came with icecream. I personally was not a fan of the brownie or the ice cream I wish there had been the option to just have a bowl of the doughballs as I had seen in other reviews as these were amazing. The tables were quite close together and it was really quite loud. I hope they invest in some sound absorbing panels. I would recommend and will be coming back. I have been again since and the pasta was still fantastic. We also ordered the mushroom risotto however this was lacking a bit of flavour, the walnuts were a nice touch. I do have to say the staff are fantastic about making adaptions to meals to intolerances.”

“Really nice food. We ordered for take away. The waiting time was not very long, for 3 dishes we've been waiting around 10-15 min. We had a picnic in the park, the trip took us 15-20 min, when we arrived the food was still very hot and delicious. Very nice serving and packing. Definitely we'll try again next time.”

“Argyle "on tour". Our first away match in The Championship for 13yrs!! And what a fitting place to start in this pub. We were made very welcome and with a mixture of home and away fans and good friendly banter it was all enhanced by TV screens watching " The Arsenal " ( not a favourite team for the locals !! ) and England women. London Pride was the order of the day and the Landlord invited us to eat our fish and chips bought across the road, in the pub. Nice touch Boss !! Just less than a mile from Watford Junction station it was perfectly placed after our 0700 train from Plymouth. And we got a creditable draw against the home team.....excellent day all round!!”
