    INTO Manchester

    ★★☆☆☆ 2.7

“It is really the very first time I have written a review on Google about an institution. I just completed my Foundation Year at INTO Manchester and I am getting into the University of Manchester with a set of satisfied grades. I want to share my 9-month journey experience at this college, my review is from my personal experience as an international student who came to the UK alone to study. 1. Teachers I studied Maths, Further Maths, Physics and RCS. All of my teachers were super supportive and some of them were always seeking questions from students, especially I was impressed with my RCS teacher because I was not into academic writing at first but she really motivated me and she did amazing work. 2. Community I did not have many close friends at INTO but all the people I knew while studying here were nice. My course was 9 months only so I did not expect to have many close friends but the whole community at INTO was friendly and I did not feel separated at all though there are not many students from my home country at INTO Manchester. 3. Organisation and facilities INTO Manchester is not a university so I cannot compare its size to UOM or any universities. INTO provides all necessary services from printing, sports clubs, placement team (really helpful with the application, I used to have a 1-1 appointment every week with them during the busiest time of application), on-site cafe, library, etc Above all, I got into UOM and a lot of my friends also got into UOM, some of them got into the University of Edinburgh or other high-ranked universities in STEM majors. I appreciate INTO for supporting me for nearly 1 year and so far do not regret my decision to study a Foundation Year there.”

“Hey fabulous how it is for kids and the adult, s get the same treatment as you would a toddler.. I don't want to go on about it but I don't know how to put it nice... 256 is great but u can not get in unless you are a student... I love that place and I have been in the place for the best part of my life but I'm not allowed to have a good time in there as I am not a student.. I think students are going to regret the loss of the intelligence offered by the local people who are connected to the area and have a good account of the situation we are all living in the UK... I miss mingling and we are just going out for a few beers and a good time down the local pub... I will check out who to complain to then apply for a new world order for the sake of the party to be some what special for both young and old ish...”

    St Ambrose Preparatory School

    ★★★★★ 5
    Closed

“My son has finished his first year of reception and it’s been a good experience. Our hope was that he’d find a friendly and diverse environment where any learning needs could be quickly identified and addressed. Although our primary focus was an emphasis good pastoral care and holistic development versus pure academic targets, we’ve been happy to note that he performs well above a broad group of his peers in this aspect. He has been stretched in areas where he was strong and supported in those he currently struggled with. As a consequence, he no longer finds mathematics onerous and takes pleasure in demonstrating his skills. We look forward to his pursuing opportunities in music and on the sports field in the coming years. A welcome bonus has been making new friends with other parents from a wide range of backgrounds. Accepting that we may be biased given the wealth of excellent state primary schools in Trafford, overall our experience with the school has been a good one, supporting our choice for an independent school in general and St Ambrose in particular.”

    Henry Royce Institute

    ★★★★★ 5
    Closed

“The Henry Royce Institute (often referred to as ‘Royce’) is the UK’s national institute for advanced materials research and innovation. Its vision is to identify challenges and to stimulate innovation in advanced materials research to support sustainable growth and development. Royce aims to be a "single front door" to the UK’s materials research community. Its stated mission is to “support world-recognised excellence in UK materials research, accelerating commercial exploitation of innovations, and delivering positive economic and societal impact for the UK.” Operating with its Hub at the University of Manchester, Royce is a partnership of nine leading UK institutions. It is a hub and spoke collaboration between the University of Manchester (the hub), National Nuclear Laboratory, UK Atomic Energy Authority, Imperial College London, University of Cambridge, University of Leeds, University of Liverpool, University of Oxford and the University of Sheffield. In 2014, Chancellor George Osborne announced the launch of the Henry Royce Institute for advanced materials science in his Autumn Statement in 2014. He pledged "a quarter of a billion" to support his proposals from June 2014 on creating a Northern Powerhouse. Royce was then established through a grant from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), which has been used to fund construction and refurbishment of buildings, equipment, and research and technical staff. Royce now coordinates over 900 academics and over £300 million in facilities, "providing a joined-up framework that can deliver beyond the current capabilities of individual partners or research teams.” Royce is one of the EPSRC's four major research institutes, the other three being: The Alan Turing Institute in data science; the Faraday Institution in battery science and technology; and the Rosalind Franklin Institute, which focuses on transforming life science through interdisciplinary research and technology development. These institutes represent a total financial investment of around £478 million and reflect the EPSRC’s vision and objectives ("to deliver economic impact and social prosperity; to realise the potential of engineering and physical sciences research; and to enable the UK engineering and physical sciences landscape to deliver"). The Henry Royce Institute is named after Sir Frederick Henry Royce OBE, a British engineer famous for his designs of car and airplane engines. Henry Royce manufactured his first car in Manchester in 1904, and in 1906 co-founded Rolls-Royce.”
