We were attending a memorial service near Bristol & stayed in the George Backwell (which is also very conveniently located for Bristol airport). We booked a double room with bath & a double room with shower which were both very comfortabl & extremely reasonably priced. We also had two dinners & a lunch there & the food was very good. Only downsides were: (i) Very erratic TV reception on 2nd night; (ii) Fire alarm went off at 2 am on first night; (iii) (Continental) breakfast is very limited (iv) Too much bleach had been applied to clean the double room with shower so room needed a good airing. However, all-in-all, we would stay there again

We came here last Sunday for a roast after a sauna and cold plunge nearby (Unfold Sauna Club - I highly recommend) and was pleasantly surprised! The pub was busy but the service was super friendly and our roasts were served in good time. Every element was really tasty!

Stayed here for a night as we had an early flight the following morning. The rooms were lovely, comfy beds, lovely touch of large cookies and the best part was the continental breakfast available from the early hours. Great choice in the restaurant for dinner and we will definitely stay again.

Visited for lunch, great service and tasty/ reasonably priced food, ingredients seemed high quality. Only minor point is that the garden smelled bad, possibly a door left open where bins may have been?

Absolutely delicious Sunday roast. Husband had beef, I had chicken. Both excellent. Veg well cooked perfectly. Quick service, lovely atmosphere. Recommend and we will be back!

Having been to The George many times over the last 20 years, unfortunately, this time I went was just an unpleasant experience. To start with the service was really bad, the restaurant was full and there was only one server running around, so the wait before even our order was taken was long and then after ordering the wait until our food arrived was over an hour. Then the food.... the portions, presentation and match against the menu were all poor. See below the size of the burger portion for what was Β£14.50! Such a small portion. For the fish and chips, it didn't come out with peas, when asked about them, I was advised oh sorry we have run out. The impression we got was that they just didn't care, very disappointing

We were passing through the area so stopped off here for some lunch. The food was great and we sat in the garden which was lovely. Prices were reasonable too. Would definitely recommend.

Stopped for lunch, very nice food and lovely pub so would recommend. Only seemed to be 1 person behind bar, 1 person bringing food to table. Amazing service and great food but pub was very busy. Bar staff were brilliant but need some help. I hear pub only opened last week so early days but would go back every day of the week. Good luck !

First time since under new ownership, and will be surprised if this place stays open for much longer. I Immediately noticed a change in atmosphere since I last visited, with all of the local ales and bottled Bristol beer factory beer no longer to be seen. Very limited draught beer, opted for an IPA which was a staggering Β£6 a pint! Can't see how this price is justifiable for a mass produced basic IPA. We came primarily to eat, and the menu did look appealing, with dishes reflecting home cooked pub meals. We ordered the double burger and a sirloin steak. The burger was Β£15 and tasted okay but nothing special - but had 2 quite small patties rather than regular sized, so felt a bit mislead by that. The sirloin steak as written on the menu should have been served with bloody Mary tomatoes and pardon peppers. However, when it arrived, it was served with simple grilled half tomatoes and the padron peppers appeared to have just been placed on the grill for a minute -they were not cooked properly and had no oil/salt as they are meat to be prepared. The main issue was that the steak, whilst cooked as we had requested (medium rare), had a slight sour taste to it and was most probably past its best. The "skin on fries" were simple oven chips. Simply not good enough for Β£25. We did raise these issues with the serving staff when asked how our food was, but no action was taken. Unfortunately, the offering at this establishment is very poor value for money, and there are now better and cheaper pubs in Backwell. Note: I had previously this place at 4* - this is an updated review following the change of management and my recent visit.

Booked a table for me and my wife for Sunday lunch. I ordered the beef as did my wife. My wife is quite petit so she had the child's option which wasn't on the menu we were handed upon arrival, but is however on the website. When the food appeared, straight away I noticed apart from an extra piece of beef on my plate, we had exactly the same amount of food (my wife actually had a smaller sized plate as well). When I queried this with our waiter he said he will ask the chef about it. The waiter came back 5 minutes later and said the chef had made a mistake and shouldn't have put as much food on my wife's plate. Hilarious! What a load of nonsense. 3 Small roast potatoes, 2 Carrots, 1 Yorkshire and a touch of red cabbage. Topped off with very fatty beef which had to be trimmed away and some gravy. Thankfully we had ordered a side of pigs in blankets (6) at an extra cost of Β£4 and some cauliflower cheese (Β£3.50) as well which helped our hunger pangs. Considering it was Β£18 and Β£9 (just for the beef dinner) respectively, the portion sizes were a joke! Just charge loads of money and give you hardly any food. Add in two cokes and the bill which automatically adds 10% gratuity was Β£45. The food did taste nice so 2 stars for that but it's safe to say we won't be returning here anytime soon, as I like to feel I've had a decent meal when I leave a restaurant. RIP OFF!
