Unfriendly. If you aren't local to Alton you won't be welcome. The type of bar you walk into and everyone stares as if visitors aren't allowed. Went on a Friday evening, everything was fine until about 6.30 when the bar started to fill up and the locals weren't happy we were taking up their seats. Member of the group got told he would have to leave as he had "had too much". He was totally fine, no means drunk. Bar staff even tried to comment on parenting as if the kids weren't being looked after because some of the group were drinking (bearing in mind others hadn't had any alcohol whatsoever). Completely uncalled for and offensive. Basically wanted us out so the whining locals could have their seats. Happy to leave. Wouldn't visit again but from the way we were treated probably weren't welcome anyway. Plenty other places to spend our money though and the next bar had no problem serving us.

Lovely community pub with friendly staff, great food (Thursday night pies are delicious) and a pool table and darts board to keep the kids entertained. The perfect Pitstone for supper after a tiring day at Alton Towers! Next time we'll be back to try the Thai!

Popped in for a quick bite with my little one yesterday. Nice friendly pub and had a nice meal. They had plenty of nice beers on tap, but i was driving, unfortunately. Staff were great and good came quickly. Good kids menu. Thank you for a nice Pitstop.

We recently visited while staying over at Alton Towers and didnt want to eat the mass produced food so went here as its quite local and had decent reviews. We were not disappointed with our choice either, what a fabulous little place! The pub part was busy, but service was quick and there was a nice range of local craft ales. The Thai food was fabulous, one of the best red curries I've had for a long time and the family were all pleased with their choices too. Definitely would recommended if your staying in the area, it's well worth a visit.

Nice, welcoming olde world pub with a great drinks selection. My family and I had booked in for a Thai, and it was amazing food! No complaints there. But unfortunately, the service was dreadful. Even though we had pre-ordered our food it was an hour late coming out of the kitchen, for which the young lad waiting-on did apologise for. Fair enough, it was busy. But what was really disappointing though was that nobody asked us if we needed anything, or whether the food was alright, or whether we wanted more drinks.... so we were forced to go to get our own from the bar. All of our empty glasses, bottles and plates were left on the table, and they were still all there when we left. I've worked in catering before and one golden rule I was taught was: "Never go back to the kitchen empty handed!" Countless members of staff breezed past our rapidly filling table on many many occasions, and did absolutely nothing. Even when the waiter bought the mains we had to move our starter plates out the way so he could place the food down, but he didn't have the nous to pick them up and take them with him when he returned to the kitchen to fetch more mains. It's basic common sense really, and there's no excuse for it. One of our party spilt some curry on the table, and a couple of us attempted to clean it up with napkins. The waiter saw us but did nothing to help. And the pile of soiled napkins were still on the table when we left too. We had to go to the bar for the bill, and had to pay there too... also a bit annoying. It's such a shame really, because the food was exceptional, better I'd say than the Thai restaurant in Uttoxeter, but there, their staff are so attentive and efficient. So if it's a restaurant experience you're after then the White Hart may not be for you. But if it's a great meal in a busy pub with a "stack your own plates, wipe your own table, and get your own drinks" experience you crave, then go for it! Also, it's well worth pointing out the price..... very moderately priced indeed, especially for the large portion size. Would I go back there? Yes definitely... but I'd leave all thoughts of restaurant etiquette at home. And I'd take my own cloth!

Traditional pub (great pint of Pedigree) with an authentic Thai restaurant. Tasty food, reasonably priced. Worth trying.

My toddler and I visited after a day a Cbeebies Land. The staff and locals were friendly and food was delicious. A Thai menu with lots of tasty dishes to choose from, if I could have sampled every dish, I would have done! The White Hart is definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.

Stayed here for 1 night, wish it could've been longer. Room was nice, no frills but clean and well presented and comfy bed. The staff were lovely and very friendly and helpful. The best part though was the Thai food, absolutely amazing. I travel to Thailand as often as possible and the food is the best in the world, and the White Hart was just as good if not better than anything you can get in Bangkok or Chiang Mai. I'd be willing to make the drive down from Scotland next time I fancy a good Thai meal.

Stayed here this weekend. Lovely villagelocation, staff were fab especially at breakfast, room was spacious and breakfast was five star fantastic. Sadly the noise being above a pub was a bit loud so we never managed to nod off until after last orders. The room was a bit tired in bathroom but ok. Bed was comfortable and it had a long bath. We would have loved to try the Thai since it's our favourite but kids are too fussy to try so we ate elsewhere.
