After my workplace Christmas dinner left me questioning both gravity and the lifecycle of a roast potato earlier this week, today’s festive feast with family swooped in like the ghost of Christmas competence to redeem the entire season. From the moment the plates landed, it was obvious this establishment understood the definition of a portion. Real roast potatoes, plural, cooked through without needing a medical certificate or support hotline. Pigs in blankets so plump they could have applied for village status. And the turkey? Tender enough for my knife to consider putting in a leave request to end its shift early. Then came the gravy and sauces. Not the polite, apologetic perfume mist I previously endured, but a glorious, deluge of biblical proportions. The kind of gravy where you briefly wonder if flood warnings should have been issued, while we patiently waited for someone to hand out armbands. Service was its own Christmas miracle. The staff were alert, cheerful, and suspiciously efficient, like they’d been briefed on customer satisfaction and decided to take it seriously. Drinks topped up before I even realised I was thirsty, plates whisked away with surgical precision, genuine smiles deployed. And the crumble? A beautiful act of festive revenge. For a start, this one actually had crumble, the kind you can see with the naked eye. Warm, balanced, and festive. It didn’t just complete the meal, it felt capable of ending minor international disputes. In short: The George didn’t just redeem Christmas dinner for me, it restored my culinary faith in humanity, and constructed a gravy fortress around the whole experience, for good measure. A warm smile from me, on a bleak winter evening, to close this chapter on an otherwise cautionary tale. Merry Christmas.

Me, my wife and my two kids went last night for a nice meal as we are on holiday. We picked the pub at it had some of the best reviews near our hotel. All I can say is we were blown away. We asked for a table in a corner away from others as my daughter has learning difficulties and hates noise and sometimes cannot stay still, they didn’t even question it. They let us sit in the corner alone near a fire. Our starters were amazing and came out quickly. The sticky barbecue chicken was delicious. Then our mains were amazing. My wife and son had a steak and they were actually cooked right! Which is hard to find these days. Then we had puddings and they were also lovely. The manager (I didn’t get her name) was so attentive which is nice to see as normally at restaurants you don’t get much interaction with them. Everyone was so friendly and polite. We would 100% recommend and if we ever come back on holiday we will be eating here again.

Very nice food with excellent service, the place could do with a good scrub as lots of cobwebs and dust about, but overall the experience was a good one

Lovely pub with lots of indoor and outdoor seating. Very friendly staff. Made welcome even though we are not regulars. Only came for drinks after work but do plan to come back for a meal one day.

Great pub, very cozy seating and friendly staff. Especially love the fish and chips here - not greasy, excellent batter, and just all round good.

Had an incredible roast dinner at The George! We had a slight issue with our drinks but it was resolved straight away by the kind and attentive staff. Compliments to the chef, everything on our plates was incredible... particularly the roasties and Yorkshire puds! The meat is divine and the waitress informed us from a local seller too! 100% recommend a trip here, great in summer for outdoors and great in winter for that cozy rustic vibe! Staff great, food great, drinks awesome and good vibes too.
